Wayne LaFuckstick was close to actually capitulating on a few things after Sandy Hook. But all the hardcore gun nuts in the NRA threatened to instantly secede and form their own NRA. And they would have done it too.
So the psycho tail wags the dog of the NRA, and the NRA’s tail wags the dog of the Republican Party, and the Republicans wag the tail of the entire country.
It’s maximum leverage, all because one group is truly ready to burn it all down if they don’t get their way.
I think also on some level the gun nuts know that burning down the Republican Party means basically the dems win and status quo as a worst case scenario. So it’s a free roll for them.

Fun gun control idea:
Take a sensible blue state. Estimate the cost of gun violence to the state in terms of prevention, response, damages, etc. Levy taxes on gun, ammunition, and Barbie-style accessory purchases that approximates this cost.
For every dollar collected, fund a pro-Trans social program.

It would be nice to know exactly when these parents and cops were confronting each other in relation to the entire chain of events. Seems obvious that many kids were safely evacuated, so it would seem like at a minimum, the cops could have been directing the parents to the area where the evacuated kids were taken, to match them up with their parents as quickly as possible. If that wasn’t happening, its fair to ask why.

This is a town of 15,000 in the middle of nowhere Texas. Cops are terrible everywhere but rural communities are a special level of awful.

It’s insane because the NRA doesn’t even represent gun owners’ interests. They represent gun manufacturers. Amazing that they’ve convinced gun owners that they’re looking out for them when they spent a lot of time trying to make it easier for manufacturers to sell weapons to Central American gangs.
