New Moderator Confirmation Votes: jman220, MrWookie, commonWealth, and Crunchyblack

You might have stumbled upon a better name for this site.

Lose/Lose Politics has a nice ring to it

Thatā€™s true but wookie is hand wringing about it and saying heā€™ll permaban everyone whoā€™s been anonymized if/when heā€™s mod. Although I suspect it will just be people he hates like myself.

That being the case, I see no reason why deletion requests should be granted without clear evidence of a legit PII breach.

It was quite the scheme to have goofy nominate me and CW and jman.

Seems any accounts created after the vote is opened should be tossed out.

Deleting old accounts without royally fucking up the site and deleting a bunch of content by other people who do not want their posts deleted requires a fuckload of work. Anybody demanding it needs to fuck right off. Anybody demanding anything at all from the admins needs to fuck off. Leave the admins out of this shit.

Hmmm. Wonder what a report of PM activity between mods and a few others would look like.

A brief summary of where things stand from my end.

The recorded votes for MrWookie are 79 for and 41 against. There was also another vote that was cast but that does not appear in the recorded results because otatop deleted the account.

People have raised issues with the votes cast by ElbridgeGerry and anon001. Both of these accounts look like legitimate lurker accounts to me, so I donā€™t see any reason not to count their votes.

That leaves MrJbroRisen, MaxCut and ThoughImPoorIAmFree (the deleted account) as the votes that are up for discussion. All three of these account owners appear to be people who previously had accounts here and voluntarily closed them. The new accounts were not opened until yesterday, several days after the confirmation thread had opened. If these votes are counted, MrWookie would be under the two-thirds threshold, and if they are not counted he would be over the two-thirds threshold. That is, the treatment of these votes will be decisive in the outcome of his confirmation.

So the question is whether these votes should count. As other posters have mentioned, similar questions have come up before about votes from Willreads and RonfromTucson. Like the current accounts in question, it appears that these accounts were created after the opening of a poll that they voted in. One difference is that, as far as I can tell, these accounts do not belong to people who were prior account holders at UP. Another important difference is that these accounts were not deciding votes in the polls that they voted in, and for that reason it doesnā€™t seem to me that the question of how these votes should be counted was ever satisfactorily resolved.

Have to cut off for now. Will be back later.

Appreciate the clarification, sorry you got dragged into this shit.

Iā€™m changing my vote to not having mods anymore. Or just one mod and itā€™s Sven. Not reading these last 100 posts.

Put it to a vote :ballot_box_with_check: :negative_squared_cross_mark:

Do you know who this historical character was?

Why in the world do you care about that?

Why do I care about obvious bad faith brigading from another site?

Eh, I didnā€™t really get dragged into anything and I honestly donā€™t care if this places crashes and burns at this point. I was just quickly skimming to remind myself why I will never be an admin again and saw people once again bringing up account deletions, which imo would be a very unreasonable demand of the current admins.

Sure if you beg the question like that I guess that makes sense. If I vote itā€™s bad faith, by definition.

If you are genuinely proud of how you have acted in these moderation threads over the past year I donā€™t know what to say. :man_shrugging:

The sooner the mods/admins/community can come to a consensus on this the better. In the interim all weā€™re going to get is hundreds of posts of pointless shit stirring and drama.

Which is, of course, the point, and is exactly why Frezi nominated Wookie in the first place. Itā€™s not a coincidence that Wookie failed by 1 vote in the last 5 minutes of the poll.
