Netflix Watch Party for LOVE ME TINDER (HGW: S1E2)

Netflix Watch Party for LOVE ME TINDER (HGW: S1E2)

Tonight’s Netflix Watch Party will feature season 1 episode 3 (“Love Me Tinder”) of the anthology documentary series Hot Girls Wanted: Turn Me On.

March 30
10:00pm EST
Watch time: 40 minutes

The documentary of the same name and this series were produced by Rashida Jones, daughter of legendary Quincy Jones. She crafted one hell of a resume for herself with such works as

The Office
Parks & Recreation
I Love You, Man
The Social Network

She has lately, however, become far more well known for her political and philanthropic efforts, least of all by campaigning in the last four democratic presidential cycles, as well as the work we will be watching tonight.

The film was originally imagined as an exploration of male consumption of pornography on college campuses. The filmmakers abandoned this idea when they discovered that the men were mostly watching pornographic videos starring young women. Curious about why such a large number of young women were entering the industry, the film was reoriented to tell their story.

Though the first episode (directed by Rashida) and most other episodes indeed focus on exposing direct and tangential aspects of that industry, we’ll be watching episode 2, “Love Me Tinder,” which is not at all about the industry.

As the title suggests, It is instead a look at modern social dating dynamics. The episode profiles James Rhine, a former reality TV star (Big Brother) in his 40s who frequently uses dating apps to connect to younger women and “ghosts” the ones that lose his favor.

As a long time big brother fan it cracks me up James Rhine is in it. The guy has definitely dated with many attractive big brother contestants over the years usually seeming to be punching above his weight.

A little over ten minutes!!! The hype train is coming. CHOO CHOOOOOO

How does this Netflix Party thing work. I installed the extension but when I click on your link it just starts playing. Or are we not doing the Netflix Party thing anymore?

I will hit play at the exact time. This just lets you sync up by watching along online or if you’re manually syncing your TV.

We will use this thread to discuss what we’re watching.

Oh and also once you have the movie up, you have to hit the PARTY icon on your browser to join the party.

“I assume that we are exclusive.”

That’s gonna be a negative.

I think James was the most-vetoed person in the history of Big Brother

Fellas, who among us has not had a shirtless selfie on our online dating profile?

I feel bad for her. I’ve been in her position.

So a lot of people have been ghosted. Have you ghosted someone? I was asking this about myself and thought well, it depends on how you define ghosting. Is that after one date? Two? Surely there is a brief period of time in which it’s okay to just stop talking to someone?

FWIW, this dude got married recently.

Thanks for watching oreo and anyone else who watches later.

As an introvert who’s also an arrogant prick not nearly as smart as I think I am, my greatest fear is dying and being sent to a hell where I’m forced to listen to “witty banter” among people who haven’t read a book since high school.

What would clue you in that they haven’t read a book since high school? (a real question that hopefully gets a funny response)

That’s a harsh thing to say that is more me telling on myself than anything (I’m among the least well-read people on this forum at the very least). Felt pretty cringey about that line as soon as I posted it.

Its like when there’s a conversation about something that is deeper than casual small talk but there is zero outside reference.

Do you mean like when there is zero meta commentary? I must say, I know I have found at least a good acquaintance if not a good friend when I can make deep cut film or literary references and someone else follows through in character.

Glad it looks like Rhine learned from this. Because man…
