Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 3)

Not quite, but lol

Or there is this bizarre exhibit I encountered in a class on not the history but THE FORM of the novel and examples of authors who had stretched the limits or made advanced toward what we now regard as a modern novel.

ā€œTree of Codesā€ by Jonathan Safran Foer is a unique book that uses a die-cut technique to create a new story from the text of Bruno Schulz’s ā€œThe Street of Crocodiles.ā€ Foer literally cuts out words from Schulz’s book, leaving behind a new narrative that is both a sculptural object and a work of literature.

Like literally using every page word for word and just cutting out pieces. I’d be impressed if it had resulted in a readable text, but it was nonsense.

I’m…not sure there’s any setting where you explicitly credit the author and then can be rightfully accused of plagiarism.

Chopping Mall (1986)

What if Robocop was set in a shopping mall, and Roger Corman was involved? What if it had cult legends Barbara Crampton and Mary Woronov in it? It would basically be the best B movie ever, that’s what.

Absolute classic. Brings me back to my days of having sex parties in mattress (furniture?) stores. Also that mall has one hell of a nice locker room that was definitely not just added into the movie so there would be more boobs.

thought that was Major Winchester for a minute

always happy to derail any conversation and bring it back to MASH

Winchester > Burns

Trap > BJ

Blake > Potter

In my memory, the guy who played BJ on (TV) MASH played Trap on the later show Trapper John, MD, which of course, was actually played by a different guy and supposedly the entire show is in a different universe than MASH anyway.

Yeah that show was weirdly named.

Sir, that is Mary Woronov, the legendary star of Eating Raul, in which she wears a sexy Minnie Mouse costume and cannibalizes Commander Chakotay.

I think your Trapper John MD memory is flawed but I can’t really tell what you’re saying to know for sure.

I think he’s acknowledging that BJ, Trapper on MASH and Trapper on Trapper John MD were all different actors.

I thought he was saying the actor who played BJ played Trapper in Trapper John MD, which is very wrong.

I think he’s saying he used to think that.

Maybe he will come back to clarify

We can only hope

It’s sad that show is lost to time apparently. Back in the late 90s the original Mag (think like audio tape but as film) was so damaged we had to bake it in kilns to save it and transfer it to a digital audio format. I probably did 90 audio laybacks for it and it never seemed to go anywhere. It wasn’t put in syndication and never appeared to make it to home entertainment either. It was a good show I’d like to see again.

For those who appreciate sleazy, surprisingly good 90s action movies that you may have missed, I’ll be watching these this week:

Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man starring Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson streaming on Tubi

Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth and Lance Henriksen streaming on Pluto

Seriously, check em out! Paging Trolly and Risky

Saw that in a theater on a date. I remember very little of it but back then I went to five or six movies a week so would sometimes be digging for something I might enjoy. I think I enjoyed it alright. Might revisit it.
