Friendship (2025)

A couple of really hard laughs and a series of minor chuckles. Quite a bit of intentional cringe, some of which I appreciated.

Decent/pretty good, but I admit I hoped for better.

He could have given two weeks’ notice, or at least finished the thing he was working on.

How am I going to want to work for a guy at his new shop if I know he’ll just walk away from all his responsibilities when something better comes along?

Also I guess that’s not Robin Williams as well, but they sure found a dead ringer.

Already posted this in the Tom Cruise thread, but Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning was a ton of fun. Went with the kids expecting to just make fun of it but everybody had a great time. Starts a little slow but once it gets going it’s great.

Do not read Clovis review. I repeat, do not read Clovis review.

All movies are better on the big screen. Not just because of the size of the screen and sound, but the whole experience and sharing it with other people. Also the investment of just deciding to pay for a movie in the theater and take time out of your day makes you want to like it more - like going out for a fancy meal. Unless you’re a Larry David-type that seems to relish complaining about that stuff.

Some movies, however, almost demand to be seen on the big screen - at least the first time when you form your relationship with the movie. Everyone I know who really likes Magnolia saw it on the big screen. I saw it at home on a standard low def TV and basically fell asleep, except for the Tom Cruise parts, which were amazing. Lost in Translation might be similar?

I wonder if the MI movies are like that.

lol I just read it and LKJ’s and can only say that I am pleased that I am not the most joyless person left on planet earth. I cannot for the life of me imagine what else anyone expected from this movie, and I stand by my review.

@suzzer99 wait is anyone actually watching this movie at home or something? Yeah that would make a big difference.

Also, I should note that a 1:50PM showing on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend was sold out and the crowd was definitely pro-movie. Some people clapped at the end!

I mean of course it’s silly. Does not diminish the experience for me at all, if anything it enhances it. Most lol part that I remember is

when they get to the listening station and they tell the scientist that shit has gone haywire and he’s like “oh, it’s The Entity right?” That was amazing.

No, but I haven’t seen any of the other MI movies after #1, so I’d be watching those at home for the first time. Odds are very good I won’t see MI10 in the theater either, so for me it will be the at home experience first if I see it.

I’m going to do a MI marathon on the toilet with my phone.

Man you gotta watch the three most recent ones, they are right in your wheelhouse.

You sure? I don’t like superhero movies and I don’t get into action for action’s sake that much w/o a lot of story and clever stuff. I like the Bourne movies because of the clever stuff.

Something to happen during the first two hours would have been a start.

Ya it’s such a weird critique of our critique to pretend it’s something wrong with us. There is no reason to give this movie some “fun” pass because we know these exact same people can, and have, made both fun and not insanely stupid and boring films in the exact same franchise.

A few of the MI are in the vain of Bourne. There are a few legitimately great films in the bunch. Just avoid the most recent two and the second one like the plague.

Right. There are eight of them. I’m positive to varying degrees on six of them. All except the first one are pretty goofy to one extent or another. It certainly isn’t for a lack of ability to suspend everything needed to properly enjoy an M:I movie. This one is just really frustrating because it’s below the level I thought that they could realistically dip to at this point.

Final Reckoning was awesome. The only reason it suffered was a lack of Rebecca Ferguson, who is actually the secret reason the movies got better over time along with Pegg. My rankings after binging the movies in a week:

Rogue Nation
Dead Reckoning
Fallout
Final Reckoning
Ghost Protocol
1
3 (As said before PSH is a boss)

2

Stunt rankings:
Burj Khalifa
Bi-plane
Helicopter (both tied)
Halo Jump over Paris
Motorcycle jump
Plane grab
Rome car chase
Many more…
Worst: MI2 intro free climb

Villain Rankings:
PSH
Syndicate dude
Gabriel
Voight
Ghost Protocol nuclear guy
Cavill
Entity
Aussies

Super Troopers 2

5/10

Super Troopers was one of the movies from a B comedy troop, Broken Lizard, that broke containment and made a funny movie. Super Troopers 2 is like some kind of faint echo of it with a cadre of C list actors cashing in and the team doing the same bits but less funny.

There are some funny bit though like them translating all numbers into metric or the Danny DeVito scene. Other than that, just skip it.

I probably have a new fantasy that involves Pom Klementieff performing surgery on me.
