I did not know this. We have the ad-free version of P+ so thatâs our go-to streamer now, other than HBO Max, which I am happy to be correctly calling it again.
Weâre gonna do a complete watch-through and then hit the theater when the excitement has died down so that I donât have to sit next to strangers who scare me
the electrified dog really drives the point home here
That looks like one of those movie posters from Ghana.
the insider (1999) was just added to hulu
The Little Foxes is another Bette Davis on Tubi. Quite good I think. I do not promise that it will be upbeat.
Now, Voyager is another on Max. That one is a bit more positive. Both recommended.
All About Eve is the gold standard, and The Letter is good too, but it doesnât look like either are streaming right now. Oh, and Jezebel is the âwow this movie sure seems super racist, but it also has some stuff going for itâ movie in her filmography. Itâs basically if Gone With the Wind was more racist and less amazing in its technical achievements. If vile politics are not a deal-breaker then thatâs one that can be worth the watch, but thatâs my significant disclaimer.
Speaking of shit my grandmas enjoyed, anyone have thoughts on the 1955 version of âEast of Edenâ with James Dean? I have always been a fanboy of Steinbeckâs books. Is this flick any good and is it somewhat true to the novel?
People really do have to take advantage of The Insider making a rare appearance on non-Criterion streaming, by the way.
I realize my stance that itâs peak Mann is a bit above the mainstream view on it, but I doubt many people are going to fail to appreciate it quite a bit.
I donât think we need to spoiler 50 year old all timer movies?
I donât know, man. Spoiler babies are a very real species. People who think that plot resolution is somehow the central point of cinema. Within reason I try to cater to stupid sensitivities, not just legitimate ones.
But I agree with you.
Even when I know the spoilers, I still enjoy ârevealingâ the spoiler. Itâs like Iâm going into the danger zone.
I remember it as being very good, but itâs been a long time. At least some scenes are excellent I think.
Saw Final Destination: Bloodlines this weekend.
Absolute banger, really gets back to what makes the series so much fun. My wife who generally dislikes gore had a great time, so Im throwing a strong recommend at @clovis8. On the best kill of the opening scene she said she was so disappointed with the crowd that was laughing and cheering. But I saw her, she laughed.
4.5/5. Lead is not the strongest and there is one death that I think was added really late into the game that didnt have a great rhyme or reason to it.
Tony Todd gives an awesome goodbye speech that was adlibbed. Go see it.
They should have set Conclave in the The Popeâs Exorcist cinematic universe. Imagine Father Amorth meeting Ralph Fiennes in a post-credit scene.
Maybe we can convince nunnehi to stitch together pieces of both into a fan film. Has a chance to do real numbers.
posted some solid numbers on RT at least
i read the book recently and liked it so I was just hoping for something that was true to the writing, or at least as much as can be, so hopefully this fits the bill. canât believe I havenât already seen it. I will check this out.
only other option looks like a miniseries from 1981 with a bunch of 1980s actors, apparently. seems like a miniseries would be better at telling the book story than one film but meh, given whoâs in it and when it was made itâll probably suck. at the very least they probably didnât make Cathy the monster she was in the book.
4 Oscar nominations including screenplay, so itâs probably not a bad adaptation.
hell yeah plus Kazan directing, iâm in for sure
âBest Adapted Screenplayâ is a weird award to me. it feels kind of like giving a nobel Prize to someone for their paper on quantum physics or whatever when all they did was take something steven hawking wrote and changed some of the details and renamed some shit.
like weâd call it plagairism in basically any other context
