Re-watching. The last time I saw the whole thing might have been in the 80s but I donāt expect to have any great new insights.

This is an amazing era to be a Dune nerd. Like being an LotR nerd when the Peter Jackson movies came out.
Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere

Louis is such a good documentarian because he has such a warm unassuming vibe while also not backing down and continuing to dig when decorum would say to stop. But because of his vibe it never comes across as a gotcha.
He also seems to have a genuine interest in anybody and can strike up a conversation with anyone.
That being said I think the documentary was just OK. He interviews and tags along with influencers.
The influencers remind me of the shock jock of terrestrial radio, especially Tom Lykus. The mix of stunts, bits, and chauvinistic world view.
He does touch on a bit of the contradictions of the manosphere. The guys always hyping how rich they are but are always offering subscriptions or incentives to get into scams. The fact that they talk about traditional gender norms but surrounded by Onlyfans trying to raise their profile.
But itās not super deep. I read a review in the podcast they Guardian where they said an interview with the women surrounding these men would be more interesting, and at first I kind of took it as a standard feminist critique of a documentary centered on men. But Theroux is very good at sussing out conflict and prying into it and the best interactions where when it was him, the influencer, and some female in their life.
The anti semitism was much more stark than I had expected. I thought itād be similar to them using retard or something, a taboo breaker, but thereās seemed to be a lot more force behind the anti semitism and the lot more ideology behind it than a simple taboo breaker

Iāve only seen the Redux version, but pretty sure itās the worse one.
(Seen it 2x and each time the additional scenes felt clearly less compelling than the rest, also the runtime is so long that itās hard not to be a bit bored by the end and the final section doesnāt hit so well)

I saw redux first, immediately loved the movie but had issues with quite a few scenes.
Pretty much every scene that was in Redux I found was better when removed
(Except there was one Willard Kurtz Scene that was some good dialogue they removed.)

I canāt tell whether Edge of Tomorrow is an inherently weak movie title or whether it just feels like the studio really thinks that, because the posters seem to constantly be attempting to obscure the title in favor of a different one.
I was curious so I looked it up. Legally itās called Edge of Tomorrow, but the tag line āLive. Die. Repeatā polled so well that people thought it was the title and the theatrical release did so poorly, that they rebranded it for home release, but to catch the most eyes in searches they often put both titles where they can.

In a vacuum, I like Edge of Tomorrow better as a title than the clobber-you-over-the-head Live Die Repeat, though I donāt necessarily think Edge of Tomorrow maps onto that specific movie all that well.
I donāt like the title. I do love live die repeat.
I love that Tom Cruise keeps dying. The living again part is what sucks.

That movie was fun but had a huge plot hole that really annoyed me at the time

TC is in this loop where each time he dies in the battle he wakes up again on the morning of the fight. One day for the first time he doesnāt die, and somehow assumes that this means he doesnāt have the ārespawnā ability/curse any more ? Why ? Obviously the only way to know that would be to die and not come back.
clearly he assumed he was working under Groundhog Day rules, which if you know anything about these type of things is the normal pattern

Rita says a blood transfusion killed her power. TC gets a blood transfusion and says to Emily Blunt I know the power is gone. She believes him.
Lol ok right if this would also trigger at end of day it all makes sense. Feel like they easily could have established this was the rule but they didnātā¦
