Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny changed his name or stage name to Rob Mac

Seated for Project Hail Mary. Let’s see what all the hype is about.

Hoppers (2026)

This is NOT a kids movie wtf. I would sooner show my child Sausage Party. Hoppers is full of rampant murder and manslaughter. And I mean it is GRUESOME.

Plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments. But would I show this to an eight year old? Absolutely not.

Not my cup of tea but hope it’s good. I hate the name.

What’s the youngest age kid you would be willing to show Beavatar to?

Honestly the characters (including the human) are such remorseless psychopaths that I would hesitate to show this to anyone under 18. At least in something like American Psycho or Funny Games, it’s mostly clear these are not good people. But Hoppers presents this community of psychopaths and the human’s own sociopathy as aspirational and essential to a functional society.

Ah, a microcosm/allegory of the studio system

Alright. I’ll just do a free-form brain-dump.

Project Hail Mary (2026)

I haven’t read this book. I honestly knew nothing except that it was a Gosling space movie that was getting raves. Oh, and also I knew that the spoiler babies were all up in arms about something that got shown in the trailer? I don’t know; the trailer was on in my vicinity a lot, but I didn’t really pay attention to it, so I wasn’t sure whether I took in this spoiler or not. And now the answer is: I almost certainly didn’t, because nothing that happened in the movie really felt familiar. But another answer is: I don’t even fully know what it was they showed that would have been OMG life-ruining if I had seen it. I mean, I can hazard a guess, but all of that yammering had me thinking that whatever it was would be a much bigger deal. Anyway, I’m now afraid to talk about anything in detail because I might trigger the Frank Costanza “STILL, I LIKE TO GO IN FRESH” reaction.

Anyway, it’s a good movie. As Gosling vehicles with bloated runtimes go, it comfortably beats The Fall Guy. As “watch a star chew scenery by himself” space movies go, I probably preferred The Martian (and I think that movie is a little bit overrated too).

I gather from the reactions that others are going to rave much harder than I am. I enjoyed myself, there was more than enough to like to make it worth going.

The “friend” he meets a little bit into the movie, was never in promotional materials for the book

I figured that must have been it. And…okay.

Jesus, the way people were talking about it, you’d think the trailer gave away the end of The Usual Suspects.

It’s one of the great literary twists in modern books. It’s a big deal. It’s universally regarded by book readers as a significant event in modern novels that led to its success.

Is the twist that there’s an alien made of rocks or some other twist? If there’s some other twist don’t tell me what it is.

But if it’s the alien twist, Men in Black did it first.

Had these critics never read science fiction before? It is a bog standard first contact story. It’s a great book and I really enjoyed it, but the unique bits in it weren’t because of the alien.

Was that before Galaxy Quest?
