Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 3)

Suzzer has a whole other choice for worst Paul Rudd movie. Don’t worry, I agree that Friendship is weaker than that one.

Well don’t be coy. Which one did suzzer pick?

I am giving Dog Day Afternoon another shot since despite me leaving a glowing review, I have forgotten every second of the movie.

LKJ what were the 2 big laughs you got? Was one of them the Afghanistan line?

I actually don’t remember. Thankfully LKJ has a much better memory than me and he’ll let us know forthwith.

I played pool with Paul Rudd once in KC. Have I told that story?

If you have, I do not recall it. By all means

I was joking mostly. It’s not that exciting.

He was with some friends at a bar in KC. It was before he totally blew up as a movie star but was recognizable. I asked him what he’d been in. He rattled off stuff he was proud of like 200 Cigarettes. I was like, “No… you were Rachel’s boyfriend on Friends!”

He didn’t even correct me that he was Phoebe’s boyfriend. He probably thought I was an idiot. But we did end up playing pool with him until his girlfriend wanted to leave.

The other weird thing is that his dad gave my family a tour of Cobh (or maybe Cork) in Ireland. His dad used to be a tour guide in Ireland, and was mostly retired. But my uncle had some connection with the KC Chamber of Commerce that got him to come out of retirement to give us a tour.

That is very strange haha

Hey, you shot pool with Paul Rudd. That’s very cool to me.

I once flew commercial next to JK Simmons. Then saw him in baggage claim. He gave me a tight smile and a head nod when we crossed paths.

Paul Rudd was in The Cider House Rules. The same movie where you wouldn’t even admit it had an excellent score because Tobey Maguire is the star of it. The same Tobey Maguire that caused you to secondhand hate Kirsten Dunst because she…acted with him before?

Can’t say I understand the Maguire hate, he seems ridiculously inoffensive to me, and for that matter The Cider House Rules is solid, but I’ve gotta think it would be your pick for worst Rudd movie.

The physical gag with the glass door.

His trip, but mostly his description of how mundane it was afterwards to the guy who set him up with the frog. I was dying at the way he was desperately explaining that he paid that money only to turn around and find that he was transported into a quick experience where he went ordered a sandwich.

Honestly I’m not quite placing what the Afghanistan line was.

One Battle After Another is getting MAJOR hype after the festival screenings.

I’m going to manage to keep my expectations in check because the trailer doesn’t bowl me over. But since PTA rarely misses for me and Leo truly might be the best actor of our generation, I have to start getting my hopes up a bit. I have a ticket to an advanced IMAX screening on 9/24, the day before the wider release rolls out.

I’m glad that this has been getting strong early reviews because I really like the genre and this series.

Second one was such a letdown, really hope Knives Out 3 redeems the franchise.

I liked the second one. Wasn’t as good as the first but still enjoyable

Interesting, I really enjoyed Glass Onion

I don’t like any movie where the teenagers are smug know-it-alls and the adults are stupid and/or insane. Maguire is ground zero for that. Schwartzman falls into that for me in Rushmore, and the kid in American Beauty.

Also, there’s like 10 different possible ways to spell his last name, and he somehow landed on the dumbest one.

Him being the mega-douche in Molly’s Game proves me right.

The Michael Cera character is based on him.
