Jeff Cannata would call it tepid.
I don’t need it to be great. I just need to not end the movie and think welp.
My take is if you are into Nathan Fielder and Tim Robinson type cringe comedy you should have a good time. If you aren’t, I wouldn’t bet on you liking it. I loved it. Cool soundtrack and style btw. I’m interested in seeing more work from this writer/director.

Yeah, Risky’s generally tended positive on Nathan Fielder which is why I’m not expecting a disastrous review afterward.

The score is so bad that I’ve heard people float purportedly serious theories that it’s Spike playing 4D chess by playing on the audience’s choices by sandbagging and making it seem like he’s lost his fastball, which plays in with the themes of the movie.
I think that theory is completely ridiculous.

Friendship is probably Paul Rudd’s worst movie. He finally met his match. I did enjoy his singing.
And at the same time, it’s probably Tim Robinson’s best movie.
Funny how comparisons can mean the same thing.
Kate Mara does a great job as usual. Based on her opening performance, I thought I was going to like the movie.
I chuckled at “This your father?” and his reaction.
I love Nathan Fielder but did not love this. I think ultimately I just don’t enjoy Tim Robinson’s performance and that’s an impossible obstacle for the movie to overcome.
The trailer in no way portrays the actual experience of watching this movie. But at the same time, if you don’t like that trailer, you for sure won’t like this movie.

My wife was watching this movie the other day and it was filled with great songs from the other room. Are you describing the actual score and not the needle drops? I hope so, I only noticed the songs I liked already.

Those are just separate things. The train sequence in H2L should be one of the greatest tension moments of the movie (it’s certainly a high point in the Kurosawa original), and it’s underpinned by what basically sounds like public domain music with no particular thematic relation to the scene you’re watching.
They’re both true.
