It looks like I’ve seen five of his. I loved Rain Man, though it’s been forever and I don’t know how it would land today. Sleepers, Good Morning Vietnam, Wag the Dog, and The Natural all just kind of fall under “decent/pretty good” to me.
I see that he’s responsible for the adaptation of Sphere that gets bad reviews. I loved the Crichton book, and then after hearing it was adapted badly I saved myself the heartache.
You gotta see Diner, Tin Men, and Avalon. You can probably skip most of the rest.
Sphere is def not good.

Welp. Seemed like a decent rule of thumb to automatically see anything Marshawn Lynch is in, but I had kind of gotten the feeling that this movie was going to be bad. The early RT score does not make me feel better.

Ha, can’t say I remember watchlisting that one, though clearly I did. A 3.1/5 average on LB isn’t bad for a slapstick comedy though. Poor Night at the Roxbury is sitting there with a 2.9 despite being quite enjoyable. If you tie me to a chair right now and give me two viewing options, Grown Ups or <insert Friday the 13th sequel here>, I’m snap-selecting Grown Ups. All-time elite slapsticks like Zoolander and Austin Powers only make it to a 3.4 average on there.
Still, my barrier for clicking the “watchlist” button on a movie is lower than actually firing the movie up. Shuffling my watchlist and going, “I watchlisted that, huh?” is not uncommon.
I did work for 5 of those. The Wind and the Lion is a good looking movie.

Haven’t seen Blitz (or his short films) but his features to date are awesome.
Blitz is mostly a big pile of whatever. It’s competent enough I suppose, I gave it a 3, but I will say that “child lost in a precarious position and having to fend for his life” should result in some sort of tension that I never felt in any significant way. It doesn’t compare favorably to a film like Lion, which I thought was great and really had me engrossed in the kid’s situation.

This was probably good. But that’s as much as I can offer, because the damn theater’s projector irreparably broke with like 20 minutes left in the movie. 20 minutes left until I had every Best Picture and every Best International Feature nominee fully watched.
Pretty interested to see how it ended! But will I summon the will to actually go back and watch the whole damn thing soon after that?
