Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

Did the Krasinkablunts have to pay royalties for ripping off Tremors?

Plenty of movies that were ā€œunderratedā€ became cult classics, or outright classics.

Doubt that Megalopolis will enjoy the same riches.

Iā€™m seeing a lot of love for Megalopolis on film twitter, tbh.

There are definitely strong defenders of this movie. And they baffle the ever-living shit out of me.

The Fly (1986)

This was great. Compelling story right from the jump, immediately came through that I was watching a special performance that stood out even within the consistently great Jeff Goldblum performance catalog, felt really inventive (yes, surely owing to the fact that I havenā€™t seen the 1958 original yet, but still)ā€¦the body horror occasionally went to distressing places, but it didnā€™t feel like it was so overboard that it would put me off of watching this again in the future. This conclusion was partially helped by the fact that the visuals eventually become cartoonish enough that it ceases to really be all that gross anymore.

Even as someone who is only secondarily into sci-fi and horror, Iā€™m happy to recommend this to most, even if you have to be willing to stomach a bit to get through it.

The Fly meets The Substanceā€™s grossness high points, but for a much shorter period of time. The Substance assaults you relentlessly for a big chunk of the run time. Though I do think that what I said above may not be a majority opinion about The Fly, that the graphic stuff becomes cartoonish enough that itā€™s difficult to be too repulsed anymore. If a person doesnā€™t agree with that then they might find the two movies more comparable in their gross factor.

Havenā€™t seen it yet, but as someone who enjoys weird-ass movies, I kind of get it. Even if itā€™s goofy as hell, itā€™s still at least interesting and you can talk about it.

I saw this recently, and I was surprised how sexy this one is. Jeff Goldblum is just as slutty as a man can be for a good chunk of the movie until has gets turned into a monster.

The Wild Robot is worth seeing just for the animation alone. One of the prettiest Iā€™ve ever seen

Also donā€™t think Iā€™ve seen The Fly, unless I watched it as a kid.

Have not seen it myself but the new Joker getting pretty universally trashed is giving me immense joy.

Why?
