yet when I try that it doesnā€™t work. or maybe itā€™s just on my screen? Likeā€¦is this gif ā€œplayingā€? because to me, itā€™s not, itā€™s just a still image:

giftest

yup

It is playing

weird. plays on my phone, but not my pc. I wonder if i have some chrome setting messed up.

I like gimmicks as much as the next @Preet_Bharara stan, but @badpostingdog is a bad look and I would like the owner to stop using it or take a moment here to explain why Iā€™m wrong.

This is a small community and having a gimmick that does nothing beyond calling people names anonymously is kinda shitty. If someone thinks I (or anyone else) made a bad post, I would like the person to say so without putting on a costume to hide the mud slinging. This is a small place and I want to know who Iā€™m talking to.

I assumed the idea of that account was to be used only in cases where the posting is so obviously and egregiously horrible that itā€™s use will be seen as funny or at least uncontroversial.

That seems to be how it started but I made this post after seeing it used twice lately when the post was not obviously and uncontroversially horrible. Once against zara and the other one I forget.

Agree. Badpostingdog is bad posting.

Iā€™m a badpostingdog supporter. In fact I wish they would post more.

Iā€™m unfamiliar with the alleged poster, but Iā€™m quite certain badpostingcat would be welcome

Iā€™m also a fan. I think itā€™s funny, and I think itā€™s useful when someone is consistently bad.

If itā€™s just a joke then fine. If not, they shouldnā€™t hide behind a gimmick.

Only cowards hide behind gimmicks.

I have no idea who it is, but I think itā€™s clearly more than a joke. I can see why people might want to hide behind a gimmick, though. Having called out a few people for what Iā€™ve considered bad posting, it has made my experience on this forum less enjoyable and more frustrating 100% of the time.

I now get snide remarks consistently from some of them, which is what it is, if thatā€™s the price of taking a stand, so be itā€¦ But I can see why someone might not want to do it on their regular account.

That said, it would be more effective on their own account.

Being kind to each other is not a bad thing and finding easier ways to be mean without consequences is not a good thing. If you feel strongly enough that you have to call someone out, then do it, but there being some barrier to overcome is part of what makes for a slightly better environment here.

It also prevents certain things from getting called out when they are issues within a lot of posts from a lot of the community and people are afraid to ruffle feathers. I also think this gimmick prevents some dogpiles. Itā€™s kept me from piling on a few times, because I feel like the point was clearly made and I can just like that post.

But being against this gimmick is kind of like defining acceptable ways to protest bad posting of all kinds in this community.

Sure.

Seems to me comedic protest that is quick, takes up one line, and does not derail a thread should be pretty non-controversial.

Ok. Insofar as itā€™s amusing, and it is somewhat amusing, itā€™s cool. Jokes are probably the most important part of this site or the internet generally.
