Containment is the most utilitarian option.
Everyone who wants avoid his posts can do so can do it easily (more effective than ignore function). Anyone who wants to read/engage can do so. If no one wants to, it’s functionally equivalent to banning.

Is he interested at all in coming here to defend himself/his posting style?
Forgive my ignorance does the software allow for true containment so they literally can’t post elsewhere?
Death by exile (to FrenchBBV)
I like the hellban idea. Does the software make it possible?
I’m not sure what the line is here where I’d insist on making the ban myself. I make liberal use of the ignore or mute functions so am grateful for the feedback from those who see ramifications for the community beyond each individual’s option to ignore a poster.
In that same consideration for the community, I think there is a line where us not banning someone would make me wonder why everyone may as well be back at The Math that Shall Not Be Named. But I’m not sure where the line is. I see such an action as a boundary for the community, not as a punishment for the poster.
Lol @ giving Raids a thread. He doesn’t hold any positions and isn’t interested in discussion. He is and always has been a troll who posts in bad faith and exists solely to stir up shit. The post count on the large threads may decline 10% a day without his trash and the people who refuse to stop engaging him.
Sorry if these questions are easily answered with a search I missed, but are there rules or agreed upon process to determine if a user should be banned? I’m not sure if these polls are actual community voting and if so probably shouldn’t just be buried in the middle of a thread.
Wow, it’s gotten a lot closer than when I last looked, with several unexpected nos.
Its 82/18 over a relatively large sample.
Lol so true
I just wrote and deleted three posts in a row. Minimizing forum drama just for you, zz.
Ooooh hidden results for max anticipation!
I still don’t see a standard procedure on how bans are decided and by who.
So just like in the real elections, voting doesn’t matter :(
There was some discussion above that 50% +1 is good enough for a ban and there wasn’t much push back.
He is just a troll. That’s it. Inso0 is just posting his thoughts. Triceratops is mostly just a moron. Anachro is all troll. His posting is no more fun and vigorous debate than if he were commercial spam or horse pr0n.
A mod could just do it. More the place of a mod than an admin imo. If people are mad about it, we can deal with that.
Just taking balls and going home? Smh. I’d be sorry to see some people go, but I wouldn’t bend over for such threats. And people usually come back anyway.
I don’t know if this is possible, but can we please get the Triceratops thread out of “Politics & News” and into some other “Containment Thread” category where all the threads are hidden by default on the main page? Seeing that idiotic thread perpetually near the top is really annoying.
I’d be cool with that as a solution for Anachronistic too.
What happens if a dedicated group of users decided to flag every anachro post that they think is trolling in bad faith?
