You’re rich, right? I think you might have a blind spot in this area. It’s empirically, anecdotally, and intuitively true that rich people are worse. Look around?

No, you didn’t. You said this:

Part of your ongoing audition for the role of Captain Reasonable, Hall Monitor To The Stars, which involves routinely falsely ascribing basic errors to people so you can helpfully correct them. Which some people might call Malum-Fideles but that’s just me.

Thread statistics can be fun, too:

I said I'm NOT TALKING TO YOU

By most standards I am rich, yes.

The error people keep making over and over is turning population level data into a conclusions about specific people. This is what is so lazy and dumb.

Let’s assume for the minute rich people are worse, as a population. It doesn’t then follow that rich person X is bad. People are making these types of conclusions all the time on here. Simplictus did the same with poor people.

Name a specific poster ITT who’s done this.

We already did this thread, right?

It’s a mistake to say “redheads tend to be hot; therefore Beaker the redhead is hot.” But it isn’t a mistake to generalize about rich people because being rich is a choice that indicates something about your character. Being rich isn’t a race or sexual preference; it’s a choice you make everyday to say, “F y’all; got mine.”

The problem with this definition of morality is definitional as we have discussed in the past. If it’s de facto immoral to be rich you need to define rich. I’m guessing you are far richer than the average homeless person. Are you immoral? Is the guy making $50,000 more immoral than the one making $20,000? Am I more moral than Bill Gates because he has way more money than I do?

Really? I could have sworn we determined that it was a measurement of personal luckiness.

I think a pretty objective standard is that if a person makes $10,000 a year more than me they are irrevocably evil.

Becoming rich is often about luck but staying rich never is.

People weren’t saying all rich people are bad. What happened was someone said something that implied poor people were dumb. People reacted along the lines of “that sucks, poor people aren’t all dumb”. Then people reacted along the lines of “not all rich people are evil!!!” Then, after all that there was some talk about the morality of wealth.

I’ll ask you what I asked Lapka. Do you think it would be immoral to own and keep EVERYTHING? (regardless of whether you got it from luck or skill or even had a choice in how you got it)

Here’s the main claim:

Having much much more than you need is wrong when billions of people have much much less than they need.

We can get into the weeds of defining terms if there is genuine interest but I’m pretty sure the Dictionary bros are just concern trolling.

Ok so basically everybody on this forum is immoral/wrong.

Sure. I make hundreds of mistakes every day. We all do. Let’s try to do a little better each day.

The average kindle reader only made it to page 8 of that book. So, you’re way above average.

I grew up Christian, then a teenage atheist, and now obnoxiously anti-theist (but I try to keep that to myself).

I pay very little attention to what thread I’m in and essentially none to what subforum I’m in. I used to pay attention to subforums on 2p2 because they had different populations/cultures, but not here. Right now, I could not tell you what subforum this thread is in. And, with some exceptions, I like it like this and often actively do not like and sometimes intentionally subvert thread/subforum discipline. :man_shrugging: - sorry, that’s just me.

I will reserve moral judgement on your behavior until after you disclose your net worth.
