Why do we assume lurkers are idiots that have no agency over what they believe?
Oh no one got in a 50 post argument with that poster so they must be right!
Because thatâs what everyone is like.
As a fellow non free willer I appreciate this post but I think everyone understands what Iâm saying. Other than the lurkers.
BTW this is imho part of the problem of your posting: you compulsively respond to every post. You do not need to respond to this post. Not even to explain that it is not literally every post.
Lurkers are children in this space, the voiceless.
IOW, wonât somebody please think of the children? arguments are at play.
I donât, but I think theyâre more likely to have not made up their minds yet or not have strongly formed/held opinions because theyâre more likely to be new by virtue of the fact that theyâre lurking. I base a lot of it on my own experience lurking the politics forum, gauging both sides of the arguments and deciding which I felt was best, and then moving forward from there.
I always viewed this community as a place where one did not want to bring weak arguments, because the free market of ideas would slap them down hard. I thought that was a good thing, it weeded out bad faith and bad arguments and the cream would rise to the top.
The ratio of post count to how big an issue this is so off!
Just this past week, ITF, I was called an âassholeâ, told I was being a child, told to âfuck offâ, and âfuck youâ. All in the matter of an hour. I was able to not respond in kind. How? Am I some kind of thick-skinned super hero? Nah, I just took a breath and chose not to. I didnât even put those posters on ignore.

Is this a good spot to jump in and observe that the âarguments that must be refutedâ from Nunn are not along the lines of promoting white supremacy or Sandy Hook denialism. Theyâre more like âjust Dem harderâ and similar. How bad is it really if these impressionable lurkers believe in the power of Nancy Pelosi for a while before they inevitably land on their backs wondering where the football went?
Right my double standard is I want you to both ignore each other and move along.
Iâve tried little experiments on twitter where I would just ignore all insults and just argue the arguments. Think it makes some people madderâŚ
You people are just gonna Westworld this one, huh?

That much more of the left voting/supporting the status quo for that much longer and hurting the progressive cause for that much longer. Letting those ideas percolate and gain support is very bad for the future of the progressive cause. Meanwhile, the longer it takes to get people on the same page supporting better policy and better strategists, the more people go from WAAF â checking out because they canât handle it anymore.
You canât possibly believe this. There are a million better uses of your time if you want to make the world go better. I wish you would just admit that you enjoy arguing and getting in fights.
I do.
I also believe this. As I said before, I am the dog that chases every car and I know it. That might make me a moron and definitely means I manage my time poorly, but it doesnât make me wrong.
Oh yeah, itâs possible to enrage people with civility.

But how else will I rope people into the Qanunstuck cult

We still doing dozens of posts an hour on this shit?
