"Missing" persons and other murder mysteries

Vader existed outside the normal military command structure.

Think of Palpatine as having duel roles as leader of the Empire and leader of the Sith. Vader was Palpatine’s #2 as Sith Lord, but was not his #2 as Emperor. Whether that could be the Grand Vizier or Fleet Admiral is a matter of debate. The military was at generally at Vader’s disposal when he was pursuing specific commands from his master. Non-film sources describe the tension between Vader and military leadership.

The structure of the Empire was deliberately muddled, since Palpatine did not care who was positioned as his successor because he planned on living forever. Given the workings of the Sith, where the apprentice was supposed to eventually kill and supplant his master or be replaced, Palpatine probably did not want to have anyone in a position to become the new emperor via assassionation.

The military was useful but a pita for Vader. He constantly had to give orders twice and deal with arrogant fucks and idiots.

Admiral: Considering the amount of damage we’ve sustained, they must’ve been destroyed.
Vader: No Admiral, they’re alive.
Admiral: *backtalk*
Vader: Asteroids do not concern me, Admiral!

Vader: That’s it! the rebels are there.
Admiral: *backtalk*
Vader: That is the system.

Vader: Admiral Ozzel came out of lightspeed too close to the system.
General Veers: He felt surprise was wiser…
Vader: He is as clumsy as he is stupid.

General Tagge : That’s impossible! How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?

Admiral Motti : Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the …

I always got a kick out the small backtalk in the originals

Yeah, me too. You could almost hear Vader thinking to himself each time, “FFS how many times am I gonna have to choke a bitch?”

Pretty amazing this dude hasn’t been found yet. I was on team he’s still alive but I think avoiding detection this long for some random would be very difficult.

I think he is on the AT between Springer Mountain and the TN border. He is 100 ft off the trail and is surviving on backpacking meals he cached when they diverted off the three day “camping trip”. It’s 8 hours from his home to Springer Mountain. He’s not moving. He’s hunkered down for winter.

I mean how many meals could he have really cached? Even meals for a week would be a fucking ton to lug around. No chance he could have brought enough for the winter.

The trail intersects roads with decent regularity. A plastic tub can store a lot of MRE’s and freeze dried meals. Once he grows out his beard and hair, he will make his way to Canada in March when the Northbound thru hike season begins. But yeah, he could legit last 30 days on one big rubbermaid tub full of meals. I think his dad helped him lug in the food. That’s how I would do it if I were in Florida and needed to hide.

You are all over complicating this. If he walks around with a mask, sunglasses and a hat, no one gonna recognize him.

He can be grocery shopping, paying cash for a hotel, all sorts. No issue.

Or just holed up in a friends place.

Seems like they would be checking his bank records and then have an estimate about how much cash he might have, and they’d also be checking on his friends. Obviously this can work for a few weeks, but it’s hard to do beyond that.

True. But the cash reserves that a middle class white dude might be able to access, especially with supportive parents, should be able to carry him far and for a long time.

So long as he operates in cash. He’s not going to be recognized imo.

Eric Rudolph lasted about five years.

I don’t remember much about Rudolph, but just based on the amount of planning and preparation he had to do as part of his crimes, he was way more capable of hiding out than Laundrie. Plus Rudolph was helped by incompetence/framing of Jewel. Laundrie will have a much tougher time avoiding being recognized. The internet is a huge factor now.

I’m firmly in camp suicide.

Please don’t. Many of us value your contributions to this forum.

Counterpoint: Laundrie will have way more opportunities to live on the jam than Rudolph.

He could easily negotiate with any number of groups already homesteading for room and board. Documentation of his stay would be worth six figures to any number of unsavory media outlets.

5 years of mre’s for an individual costs ~ 2k. His will to live will be one of the biggest factors.

Discounting suicide,I think he makes it longer than Rudolph.

I don’t think his family could have set him
Up giving the time and resource factors.

I am assuming he unalived himself.

I should point out that the ZK “community” is skeptical about this but I have a strong suspicion that they are dOiNg ThEiR oWn ReSeArCh. It appears there’s some shade being thrown here by this detective team at the Riverside PD who have closely guarded the Bates murder evidence. They (RPD) have officially and repeatedly claimed that the Bates murder is not connected to the ZK. This team says Bates was a ZK victim and that ZK = Poste. Poste died in 2018. Also:
