More than 40 people were dismissed from the jury pool, including a Rush Limbaugh fan, a man who supports gun rights but believes regulations and background checks are needed, several who owned guns and were staunch supporters of the Second Amendment, and others who expressed concern about the spread of COVID-19.
At the same time, while IMO networks of violent, sincere white supremacists are larger than people believe, IMO most rural whites arenât such sincere white supremacists, do not have sympathy for kidnapping governors, and are trying their best to respect the prosecutor who they are already very biased in favor of compared to the defense

Anyways, if you want a thoroughly researched example of how difficult the FBI thinks it is to win these types of cases, or are just interested in true crime or white supremacy assholes or whatever, I canât recommend the OKC book I talk about above enough. The short version is that Nichols is a moron, McVeigh very likely had a ton of help, and the FBI didnât go after the support likely based out of Elohim City because they were legitimately worried that theyâd lose the whole case, including McVeigh.

I think there are rural whites who arenât white supremacists but who would be willing to vote for acquittal as a protest against COVID restrictions.
So do I. I encounter them all the time at truck stops, shippers, receivers, etc, who would at least say this, whether theyâd follow through or not
I think it would be extremely hard and rare to get even 3 of them on a 12-person jury even in the reddest of areas. I would be shocked if anyone here talks with more loudmouth Trump supporters than I do. The ones who fit the liberal caricature are a very slim minority
Theyâve been increasingly emboldened to talk at the poker tables, mainly due to COVID protocols.
Just because someone isnât in a violent militia group doesnât mean they wonât be sympathetic toward the guys who tried to kidnap Big Gretch. Havenât been to Grand Rapids in a long time, but rural GR is about as good a spot as you could ask for if youâre picking defense witnesses here.
Thatâs not the story Iâm telling myself. Obviously such a jury is biased against POC defendants. But while theyâre less biased against white defendants, theyâre still biased against them, and still favor prosecutors, who they disagreed with here.
Iâm basing this on my communication with people. Iâm basing this on the differences I notice between violent people who send me death threats at home and call me slurs in the streets when theyâre surrounded by their violent organizations, and the much larger group of Trump supporters I interact with on a daily basis in friendlier environments, some of whom know things about my activism and orientation.
The posts got deleted at my request, but the reason my account is gone had to do with some social media doxxing in right wing spaces and some new info about what social media info cops had. This involved friend of mine and I didnât see anything to do with me, but still figured caution was warranted. I donât know if it makes a difference but maybe if you leave the S off my name it could make it harder to search. Probably either way is fine since itâs so common, if you leave the pckt part off

Thereâs sincere âtrying to do the right thingâ people who have been bombarded by misinformation their entire lives, and then thereâs a MUCH smaller group of sincerely violent people whoâd also want to do a jury nullification or whatever

People may be over-emphasizing racism. Being anti-government is probably the more dangerous component of these movements than being pro-white.
If you thought I was trying to say that the jury was full of racists hicks because I suggested that they may have been sympathetic To the defendants, thatâs not what I was going for. Pretty much the entire Trump-voting block Would be sympathetic to these people, Iâd imagine. That includes plenty of non-hicks.
