This information is 10 years old, but it was my understanding that the conviction rate for people charged with terrorism stuff was pretty low. Like it was weird that the Feds had a much higher conviction rate than local prosecutors for everything except terrorism cases. They probably figured that indicting people might break up plots even if the case was weak.
How hard would it be for someone to start a Canadian Fox News? Seems like it would print money. I assume someone would have already done it if the barriers to entry were similar to what they are here.
You can get Fox in Canada it just will be a 15.99 a month, have to call your cable provider to add channel.
Cable/internet is quite expensive up here and youād need the standard right wing billionaire funding. There are a few more barriers to entry, but as is always the case, itās mostly money.
Getting American Fox News isnāt quite the same. What I was looking for is basically a network with a Canadian Tucker Carlson that just rants about Canadian issues.
The closest we have is āThe Rebelā thatās basically a middle between infowars and fox. I think they tried a cable channel but it bombed?
Donāt think Fox Canada could work. Itās like just smoking pot for people who have already had the heroin of fox news/Facebook/infowars.
The county as whole went for Biden but otherwise red. Enough R voters dumped Trump but not the party. Will be back Red for any other R.
Fair enough. When it comes to insights about Michigan politics, Iāll defer to the Spartan over my googling.
A major difference maker in Canada is that we have a public broadcaster that presents right down the middle bland news on the public dime. So our private sector right wing news, of which there is plenty, competes with a public service instead of competing with CNN. Almost a million Canadians watch the evening news on the public broadcaster. Thatās only 1/40 of the population but itās probably a much larger percentage of the people that actually watch a news show daily. And lots of reasonably engaged people like me read the news on cbc.ca. It costs Canadian taxpayers about $US 1 billion annual to keep the public broadcaster going. The US would do well to increase the budget for public news in the US, PBSās budget is like half of Canadaās public broadcaster. Itās one of the areas where a few billion dollars per year of US military budget would deliver way more value elsewhere.
I could probably give you a run for your money here.
Although maybe you talk to more, I just talk to the same ones every day. But yeah the trump supporters I know are not letting actual governor kidnappers walk.
But theyād probably pretty quickly send a Muslim away for life on the same FBI entrapment scheme that theyād be skeptical of for a white defendant, sadly.
Close, it was Sun News Network, but the Rebel guys were all over it. Didnāt even last four years. They couldnāt get onto the mandatory carriage tier on any of the cable networks, and so couldnāt even draw 10,000 viewers for their average programming. Thereās just never been a market for that kind of garbage up here (so far).
The closest is the National Post franchise, which has a pretty big reach and although itās not Fox-level stupid it does have a health dose of Dumbest Possible Conservative Take.
This election is going to be bad for the quality of discourse in Canada. The Freedumb Trucker movement shows that thereās a loud audience for this stuff, and little pee pee is a completely shameless sociopath that will push every deplorable button to try to win, starting with the Con leadership process. That guy is a cancer on the country.
Holy fucking shit, consequences?
