Group 2 voting is closed and with it the only St. Anger track goes down, a sad day in this forums history to be sure. Some really poor choices were made in general here IMO but on we go.
Working on group 3 now.

Group IV, got a legit contender for the trophy here with āOneā IMO. Also Sanitarium/Welcome Home is fucking great, fade to black is great, Trapped under ice is a personal fave.
edit: just realized i pulled group 4 on accident, so weāll circle back to III next.
Man you really hear the difference between pre and post Black Album Metallica when listening to them side-by-side. They donāt even sound like the same band.
One is my favorite Metallica song. Iām voting for it all the way through.
Massive āwatā at the people voting Shortest Straw over Orion. Are you out of your goddamn minds.
I got Moth Into Flame > Trapped Under Ice but not religious about it. Definitely think Of Wolf And Man > Fight Fire With Fire though.
Eye of the beholder sucks, that is all.
Also, the top 4 of this group is legit
All 8 of these decisions were really easy.
Thereās almost no way Iām voting for a pre-downfall Metallica album over the Black Album. Unless itās like Enter Sandman vs. a really crappy track.
Shortest Straw deserved an easier opponent, and it also feels like the instrumentals will suffer in this format, but Orion continues to be my favorite Metallica song, whatever that means. Trapped Under Ice kicks off with a solo before any singing which is appreciated, verse riff is good, chorus is a little meh, middle section is nice. Moth Into Flame is a very good track, beats a lot of Black Album offerings as a relative measure of its quality (as do the other top 4 songs on Hardwired).
I donāt like Fight Fire With Fire much, but we need to do quite a bit better than a song about werewolves? to beat it. Good solo though.
Orion top 5 Metallica song for sure. I think Of Wolf And Man is one of the better tracks on the Black album and Fight Fire With Fire maybe the worst track on RTL. That or Escape I think?
Frayed Ends of Sanity also getting screwed by seeding, Iām giving it my vote. I accept that One is going to go really far and deserves to, but before it does feast your ears on the riffs and harmonies going into the solo on Frayed Ends. One of the highlights of the album for me.
Also, The God That Failed is a great song.
Yeah, Iāve got that as the second worst draw in the tournament, behind No Leaf Clover.
Meh at Frayed Ends. AJFA has One, Blackened and Harvester of Sorrow and then massive daylight to next track imo. Idk what Iād even put next.
Uhhā¦the title track?
Some people like Fight Fire With Fire and canāt stand Call of Ktulu, and have it ahead of Ride The Lightning etc., I definitely loved the song when I first heard it I just got over it.
I have Harvester behind AJFA the song, To Live Is To Die, Frayed Ends and about equal to Shortest Straw. The only āweakā song Iāve got is Dyers Eve and itās not that weak. Eye of the Beholder is underrated but at the bottom also.
yeah, that passage is sick af
I wanna get on my treadmill listening to it!
Hetfieldās laugh near the end, too
we need to do a thread on the best āyeahhhsā in music history. James in Bleeding Me lol Goat yeahs
Hadnāt heard it in ages, but upon re-listen just now, that intro on FFWF sounds like Dio.
the verse is just a total steamroller lmao
we all shall die!!
Thereās a famous quote from I think it was Hetfield that he looked out at the crowd one night while playing AJFA and they looked bored and he was like āthis is the last time we play this songā.
Itās an OK song but strays a little too far into prog wankery, never really justifying, no pun intended, its length.
I like how we are all pretending Lulu doesnāt even exist.
One, Fade to Black and Welcome Home were easy decisions. The rest was actually kind of hard.
AJFA is a good song. It might not be what fans in the front rows of a Metallica concert want to hear. Metallica tracks always tend to be a bit on the long-ish side. The average track on Death Magnetic and Hardwired is 7 minutes long and those at times appear to be a much more of a patchwork effort.
And that should continue
