I like that rivalry a lot. There was a lot of hype about it being toxic but I felt the fans loved it and it didn’t feel too out of line to me. Sports need good funny rivalries. When Profar robbed a mookie homer and mad dogged the crowd I thought that was awesome. Baseball’s boring, it needs crap like that, as long as people arent getting violent (which did happen but security is insane now)
I was at the game with the Profar stuff and general unrest and the Padres fans in our section were extra douchey. Cheer for your team, boo the Dodgers and taunt the crowd, I agree that’s all good. One of the most fun games I’ve ever attended was as a very drunken Red Sox fan in the Bronx, it was awesome. But these guys were 100% profanity and obscene gestures.
I personally think that stuff is funny. There were three young 20 somethings game one that were like that, and the section all had good seats and the reaction was mostly “we’re watching the game, chill.” Then the crazy comeback and they had their heads in their hands at the end and their hoods over their heads.
In that stadium your experience can drastically differ by where you go. the pavillions are generally pretty rowdy. I like top deck above home plate. All the cops are up there too so people generally behave.
In a motion filed in Houston bankruptcy court, MLB and the Braves wrote they possess “grave concerns that, if the plan is confirmed, there is a substantial likelihood that the debtors will find themselves once again in financial distress and/or bankruptcy court in the near future.”
Reds decided to flee joining the Guardians, Brewers, and Twins. Only a handful of teams or so still with this shyster group.
The millennial urge to post “so i did a thing”
one of the more ridiculous things ive done but i like how it came out. I know the letters are gonna bleed but I don’t care. this was almost a religious moment, I was at the valley of a deep seasonal depression and the dodgers blowing it in the playoffs always makes it worse, it looked like it was gonna be another disappointment and then cortes throws a fastball down and in to freddie effin freeman. I’m making a comeback into playing baseball right now too and I find it so inspiring that this 35 year old dad with injuries just ships the WS and the MVP.
In other news been reading a lot about the foreign views the dodgers got and it’s INSANE. They effectively turned the entire country of japan into their market, 120 million people. Someone on the dodger forums posted today that in Taiwan they are still showing game 5 on repeat instead of NBA games, lol. That (deferred) 700 million has already been made back, I’m pretty sure. The terrifying thing for the rest of the MLB is the dodgers have easily $40mill/year to pick up another elite pitcher if they wanted to. So crazy
I’m not a tattoo person, but that looks good.
thanks, it’s gonna lose a lot of detail after a few years but I dont mind
Yeah, Baseball Doesn’t Exist did a video all about it. Pretty incredible.
Mariners tried something similar with Ichiro and Kaz Sasaki but they couldn’t win enough.
Wow, end of an era.
I knew who had left and still thought this was clayton kershaw til I realized he’s been there way longer than 10 years.
30 years of season tickets is crazy. If Skenes is the real deal, he’s out as soon as he’s a Free Agent. And if he blows his arm out, you just gave some fan tickets for 30 years to see a guy pitch 1 or 2 seasons.
I mean, it would still be pretty cool to have season tickets behind home plate for 30 years if the Pirates are your favorite team.
That said, I’d investigate selling to see how much it could be worth, even if I was a Pirates fan.
i’m pretty sure he’s the real deal
he had a sub 2 ERA as a starting pitcher this year
gonna say that’s pretty good
the 30 years of tickets is insane though. I’d have to sell as I’m not a pirates fan nor would want that but it’s still insane value for the card.
I am too but the Pirates rarely hold on to talent long term.
do you think they should try to leverage him for some top prospects and strong position player, thinking purely in terms of WAR? (i know nothing about his contract terms sorry if this is ignorant). It wouldn’t be the worst move imo, although he will definitely bring in tons of fans == $$ if he stays there. I felt he was extremely undervalued last off season. I had no doubt at all after watching him his last year before the MLB. He’s generational if he stays healthy. My favorite mlb clips to watch are skenes tunneling overlays. I’ve never seen anything like it.
I think what happened to Wander Franco is gonna scare teams into committing a lot of money to young players. But if they think he’s the real deal, they should sign him for 10 years now if they can.
Seems like a big gamble for a team like that to me. I kind of want to sim it. Pitchers have been dropping like flies and his velo is very high.
