if anyone needed another reason to root for the good guys…

I was going to remind everyone that rooting for the Tigers is rooting for Greeear’s happiness.
There are no winners in the slums of Detroit.
One of oldest and dearest friend’s long time boyfriend just found out he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer (he’s 60).
His wish is to see a Tigers World Series win.
So I’m rooting for them, unless it’s against the Royals of course.
All in on the fathers. Lets extended that Dodger drought to 36 years
Awful news. Go Tigers.
Rob Parker
Of course. I’m wondering if Rose is even in the top 10
Beltre, Boggs, Brett, Chipper Jones, Mathews, and of course Schmidt are all obviously better baseball players than Rose that played a lot of 3B. Brooks Robinson there is maybe a debate about who had the better career but it would be hard to argue that Rose’s 600 games at 3B make him a “better 3B” than Robinson and his 2800 (!) games at 3B. Molitor/Edgar M types that were basically expert DHs that played some 3B, although Molitor played more games at 3B than Rose and Edgar wasn’t that far behind.
Rose probably has a decent argument for the remaining top 10 spot ahead of guys like Santo, Rolen, or Nettles, who were very fine players that played 3B.
Plus guys like Pujols (who came up a 3rd baseman, and might have played there for 5+ years in other circumstances)
Pete Rose wouldn’t be a top ten player among active third basemen.
Well, no. He’s dead.
i find scot Rolen way ahead of pete. his peak was mvp level, pete was never there. also was at 3rb his whole career while rose went to lower defensive positions.
Pete was top 10 MVP in 10 seasons and top 5 in 5 seasons including a win in 1973.
Rolen came in 4th in 2004- his only top 10 finish.
Btw my friend’s boyfriend passed away a couple of days ago. I don’t know the details yet but I think that’s like a month and a half from the first symptoms. He would have just started chemo. Scary stuff.
So sorry to hear that. Alex Trebek is the only person I’ve even heard of that any kind of post diagnosis life span. My college roommate lost his Mom within a few weeks.
You really don’t hear any good things about pancreatic cancer.
My great uncle lasted 6 months or so, and he was 87. I was planning to go to Portland to visit them. I guess I’ll go now for the celebration of life.
My father-in-law died from pancreatic cancer.
Somehow he lasted 3 years when they gave him about 3 months. Lots of surgeries, in and out of the to hospital, not a good 3 years, but he still got them.
sure would be more confident in clase getting 5 outs if game 2 didn’t happen
