I donāt think it is either of those. Probably more like a shrug.
This election seems to have been mostly a waste of time and money which is what most people thought when it was announced. A sigh of relief that it didnāt backfire.
Think it depends how long he wants to be PM. If he only wanted one more term itās kind of whatever, calling it then guaranteed a win, but they also probably expected better.
This was actually a pretty crazy election in Alberta. Double digit drop in conservative support and gains by ndp and liberals in a minority government year. Obviously, Kenny plays a big role in that but still some signs of a crack in our blue wall.
modest gains are still gains? sorry, as a shitlib american i see negative seats for conservatives anywhere and reflexively start opening budweisers to celebrate.
It would be a small victory if this was a regularly scheduled election, but Trudeau called it himself solely to gain more power. That move damaged him and the Liberal party more than the results would indicate. It does give us a couple more years of stability, but I donāt think it bodes terribly well for the next election.
The other problem is that the Cons have gone with lame ass boring half measure duds for two elections and lost. The pressure will be on them to pick a fire brand that will attack attack attack. That opens the door for a Ford Family style politician in the Proudly Ignorant Conservative mold. Or we might just get a mouthy mainstream Con like Rempel or Poilievre.
