Just stumbled on this book the other day and thought it was relevant to this thread. The Chickenshit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives. I saw simplicitus had mentioned it a couple times in other posts but wanted to drop it here for a different audience

Guy steals all the money, uses the stolen money to pay for infinity lol law appeals and nonsense, thousands of retirees locked out of their money.

In indicting Mr. Lindberg, federal prosecutors alleged he used money “skimmed” or otherwise extracted from the insurers to fund his lifestyle, including for private jets, party planners, a $620,000 European vacation and a Raleigh, N.C., mansion for his then girlfriend.

Filings in a civil case with another insurer, which challenged Mr. Lindberg on his personal expenses, show that the divorced executive has paid large sums to conceive offspring via surrogate mothers.

His head of personal security told a federal court in November that the executive was living in Tampa with five children under 3 years old, with a sixth on the way. Mr. Lindberg said in court filings that he is home-schooling the children in one of the two houses he recently bought.

What in the fuck

He was convicted and sentenced to 7 years but the conviction was overturned because of the wording of a jury instruction LOLOLOLOLOLOL LAW ALWAYS

Chevron makes brown people sick and destroys their environment, Donziger represents 30,000 of them in a class action suit, court rules that Chevron must pay, but it’s not a US Court. US Courts rule that the foreign court’s ruling is invalid, protecting Chevron from paying.

Chevron then acts as prosecutor in US courts against Donziger. Donziger is like wtf how can a private company be a prosecutor, they have no standing, so I do not turn my documents over to them. So he’s in contempt and given outrageous sentence

Obviously at every step of the way, the judges making rulings are in Chevron’s pockets one way or another. Which is funny because that was their claim against the lawsuit they lost: that you can’t say the judges weren’t bought off

Edit: lmao this was meant to be responding to @Danspartan request for cliffs

Great system of justice.

You missed one important point, imo. Donziger originally brought suit in a US court and that court agreed to move it out of the US on Chevron’s request!
