LOL Democrats - Tik Tok on the clock, but the party don't stop

Who have almost always been right.

Lol imagine not being worried about this scenario when like all the top scholars in this area came out and said this is a massive crisis

lol no.

Wat.

You think things are okay?

I think that screaming about stolen elections is over dramatic. If the recent Georgia law was implemented nation wide, the 2024 election would still be free and fair. The country survived for 200 years with zero early voting and negligible absentee voting.

Iron,

You good with every GOP legislature purging election administrators who weren’t down to steal the last election and giving themselves the legal authority to overturn the next one? You cool with the open plotting to send alternate electors? Just trying to gauge how scared I should be cause those things seems pretty bad to me, a simpleton.

And no women or minorities voting. Things were just fine 200 years ago!

That didn’t happen. Call me when the Speaker of the PA House gets deposed.

I mean tons and tons of scholars and academics are calling this a massive crisis. It’s not just us " bedwetters " or whatever the centrists like to call us.

This is different than previous times in history. Because back then you didn’t have the voters of the opposing party legit calling for fascism and one party rule. Back then there was at least some nobility to it, norms and shit were respected. Yeah bullshit was going on and horrible voter suppression but you didn’t have brainwashed psychos demanding one party rule.

You gotta be completely unaware or ignorant to not see how this threat is different. Also inequality at all time highs.

Back then the crooked politicians just wanted an advantage. Now their voters are demanding they rig elections because liberals are the evilest people in the world.

I wish I was so ignorant I thought this was all no big deal. Or well off enough that I knew I’d be ok. Although even then I’d be freaking out because I know the massive pain and misery this will cause.

Like 70% of republicans think trump should be president and would have been cool with a military coup but yeah no big deal here. Not like they aren’t going to keep pushing this shit.

It’s not even about them over turning elections. After Dems lose power they are going to make it so Dems can’t win power. They won’t need to over turn them.

i’m not cool with trmp officials conduct, it has to be prosecuted ( preemptive @ sweetsummerchild ) but i’m cool with republicans eating their own and purging everyone except for the most inept. they have resorted to cheating and grift because pretty soon they lose fair elections 99% of the time, and voting rights are setback obviously, but this is just a continuing struggle. even if the left pass new vra and win ‘22-24, we are going to keep fighting fascism in 26-28 and beyond. i imagine in the 30s we will be fighting disinformation that aoc and pete run a satanic lgbtq commune in the basement of an organic craft flatbread bakery.

tbf, in 2017 70% of left wanted hillary to be president and would have entertained the fantasy that a military coup made that happen on inauguration.

Is DeJoy to blame for this fuckery? Ordered a used book a couple weeks ago. The package originates in Secaucus, which is less than 10 miles from my apartment. It then travels over 800 miles in the wrong direction to Illinois, before gradually working its way back through Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and now it seems to be sitting in a USPS building in NYC.

I agree with your general point, but on this one its more a matter of degree. I think American conservatism has always had a rich vein of fascism through it, but before Facebook and other social media people were ostracized out of mainstream discourse if they were overtly ethnofascists. Even generally mainstream figures like a David Duke were typically framed as extremist outliers when they made it to the evening news. In a post social media would though people are NOT ostracized for fascist views, they are algorithmically channeled into a digital echo chamber / safe space that normalizes fascism.

every generation thinks it’s different than previous times. and they are always right to a degree.

The best analogy I can think of is that we were all on a plane flight when we noticed that it was leaking fuel, the engines sputtered out right before we got to our destination, but we managed to land safely, immediately upon landing several of the passengers get out and, rather than fix the leak, start poking more holes in the fuel tank, and you’re here pointing at one of the fuel lines saying, “look, that one is still intact, everything’s fine!”

Yes. Mail is like this everywhere

Republicans fucking over the postal system is another outstanding talking point Dems could use if they weren’t the most inept political entity in history.

You know who cares about the mail and votes in giant blocks? Old people! Their lives sometimes depend on getting meds delivered!

I know that social media brain tends to shorten attention spans, but Dems said a lot about this.

Shit happens during every cycle that could be construed as tilting elections, but with social media filtering for anything that can be made to seem like someone is destroying democracy, people’s brains break.

I should point out that social media brain effects Republicans as well and produces real changes in behavior that must be dealt with. Just be aware that’s what is happening.

I think there’s a fair bit of truth to this and some of the more extreme ‘the sky is falling’ is unjustified. However, I absolutely do believe we’ve entered an historic new era - politically, socially, and every other way - and most signs point to more instability with things getting worse.

I can’t predict the future and I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I can describe lots of very plausible, specific ways about how things could degrade and slowly fall apart over the next decade or two. I can’t really do the opposite. I don’t have very believable stories to tell you about how things can improve.

There are lots of people making similar observations in various fields. It’s not just overly excited internet randos, it’s historians and sociologists and anthropologists and economists and other well educated professionals who study these sorts of things for a living, and they’re all saying, “Uh yeah, not cool.”
