Anyone in public office writing that email is either too stupid to realize it will go public and look horrible or legitimately mentally ill - either way they shouldn’t be in charge of a city with 10 million residents.
I find it even weirder that someone would want to scrap emails from FOIA requests because of that email lol
While I’m sympathetic to the idea that everyone should have privacy, an email to all staff is official business conducted in behalf of the people of Chicago. They should have been cc’d.
It wasn’t all staff, it was 3 people. Anything juicy to all staff gets leaked anyway.
I can’t imagine sending a work email that I wouldn’t be comfortable popping up in a FOIA/MPIA request. Like, it’s really not hard to just keep work emails bland and professional and if you want to yell at your subordinates like a lunatic doing it in person or on the phone.
Seriously not understanding what goes in an email vs what should be screamed over the phone or better in private… That’s a pretty big lapse in judgement.
And that’s me pretending like I’m not philosophically opposed to the content of her entire email. Not going to work enough is the opposite of what is holding back productivity in this country.
The way to stop the attacks on Ilhan is for the squad to tell leaders everything is DOA, including the budget and debt ceiling, until they cease and an apology is issued. There are problems with this approach, but we are basically down to Hail Mary strategies anyways and the alternative is she gets killed.
She needs real security. That’s just a money problem. Loons haven’t killed anyone with decent security in quite a while.
I’ve mostly tuned out at this point but I do skim the main threads every week or maybe twice a week. The current situation is nearing worst case scenerio post-Georgia runoffs. We are probably a month or two from Biden signing a GOP infrastructure bill that addresses nothing substantial. There is zero hope for HR1 or progress in other key areas. It really does look like the Covid bill will be it for Biden’s entire term.
Which brings me to my point. I will preface this by saying that in the short run Biden is substantially better than Trump. I am very much starting to doubt Biden winning was actually better in the long term. The Dem normie class is in blissful apathy mode fucking and eating brunches post-Covid celebrating like everything is fine. The Trump outrage is gone. The George Floyd outrage is gone. In their mind we won.
Meanwhile the GOP is systematically destroying democracy in many states. The Trump GOP purge is almost complete at this point. The outlook for 2022 and 2024 look terrible from where I am sitting. The result of all that looks a lot like a GOP sweep by 2024. With a 6-3 Supreme Court and a party that has gone full lunatic. The result will be decades of pain here. I’m not sure that is better than 4 more years of Trump stepping on his own dick and bumbling through half version of the GOP evil long game.
i volunteered for this guy in my youth. i kinda felt for him because he did need to straddle the religious/progressive line to survive, and it seemed genuine. but imagine having nothing but faith that joe manchin might someday do the right thing after negotiating down and whittling away all leverage.
The only reason Biden was going to be better long term was because RBG and Breyer needed to be replaced. But RBG couldn’t hang on another few months and Breyer apparently wants a Republican to fill his seat after he dies anyway. But you’re still right, I thought at least we could put a bandaid on some of the administrative destruction of the Trump years but Biden doesn’t even seem interested in that.
Entire dem leadership will release a statement against Omar but heaven forbid people go after Manchin and Co

Honestly we were fucked regardless. Trump winning a 2nd term with 6-3 court was the end of democracy anyways.
Our only hope was crushing and getting like 54 seats and democrats actually wanting to save democracy.
At least this way we got the covid bill so there will be slightly less suffering short term. Long term GG anyways
I asked her if we could hold hands, she said no, so I asked her for anal sex.
It’s called pushing the Overton Window.
Bernie is the best
Really sucks progressives have little leverage because they actually care about helping people and the rest are completely happy to tank the bill and blame it on them. Even Dems would love too.
