Seems pretty discriminatory.
Counter point: no itâs not
Womenâs sports by definition is discriminatory in who can participate and with good reason.
We have most red states trying to elimimate the ability for trans people to exist or receive medical care in one way or another.
Seeing the right wing propaganda being spread here once again is really depressing.
How many trans women are competing in womenâs sports exactly? I guess throwing millions of trans people under the bus to protect from a few edge cases in lol sports is fine though.
Also are the people who continue to talk about fairness aware that the foremost governing body in womenâs sports in the USA already has rules in place to make it more fair and GASP allow trans athletes to participate.
Here is a quick test you can do to determine whether it is a slippery slope or not.
Ask yourself the following questions.
- How long have transgender people existed?
- How long have transgender people competed in sports?
- Do the sports in question still exist?
- When did this start becoming an issue you saw on the news, and who was driving the coverage?
End test.
Hope this helps.
As bad as it is in America, itâs worse in Czech Republic. Hell, gay marriage isnât even legal here. Weâre very much behind America and despite that, still the most progressive in the Eastern Bloc wrt LBGT rights.
Question 5 when was the last time previous you gave any thought to any womenâs sports league? Can you name any winner of any female sports league in the past 10 years?
I watch figure skating, womenâs curling, womenâs hockey, tennis, and golf. Will watch womenâs basketball here and there as well, and watch pretty much every sport in the Olympics.
I still remember watching Melissa Bishop finish 4th in the Olympics in the 800m with the three hermaphrodites ahead of her, and she being just behind the 3rd place one and well ahead of the 5th placed individual. I didnât know and still donât know what the correct answer is for hermaphrodites competing in events where they have a distinct genetic advantage. Luckily track and field came up with their own rules and I donât have to make that decision.
When it comes to trans athletes in sports the decisions should probably be made by national organizations for those sports and not directly by governments. I agree that it being a big issue in the media and local governments is completely unwarranted, but I disagree with the sentiment that Joe Biden made a mistake by allowing the ban of individual trans athletes from competing in womenâs sports. That seems completely reasonable, and was kind of shocked to learn there were many thinking they should freely be able to compete regardless of the sport.
All of sports is about distinct genetic advantage.
Iâm 5â8". Should I be upset that I could never have been as good a swimmer as Michael Phelps at 6â4" with hyperflexible size 14 feet?
Again the largest governing body for competitive womenâs sports in the US (the NCAA) already has rules addressing fairness related to this issue. There also isnât, at least to my knowledge, a single case of a man posing as a trans female just to try and dominate womenâs sports(ie the Shawn Deeb). The idea that it is rampant is just totally fictitious and meant to peel away support for trans people in general.
Can someone who has read this order explain how the case by case thing is different from what sports governing bodies are already doing. Donât they have rules governing participation of trans people already?
Anyone think there should be some sort of rule in place to prevent obvious trolling (i.e. someone obviously lying about being trans just to prove some sort of point)? Or is it sufficient to just assume that virtually no one is going to do that. And if you made such a rule, what would it be?
The NCAA basically already has this. You have to have undergone at least 1 year of HRT to participate and have testosterone levels below a certain level. I donât think anyone here has a major problem with that and to me it seems like a relatively fair compromise that prevents what you are talking about.
Iâm playing devilâs advocate here, but if we extend that argument couldnât we just apply that to all womenâs sports. All sports are about genetic advantage. Should I be upset that Iâm XX and someone else is XY? Why should anyone do anything about that? It is just another genetic advantage like height, speed, etc.

It doesnât seem that hard to figure out on a case-by-case basis who has legitimately transitioned and who is just being an asshole. Just ask their teachers? Thereâs like a dozen top-flight trans athletes? I think we can figure it out.

Thanks. That seems like more than enough to keep the trolls out.
and thereâs the end of womenâs sports.

Isnât this exactly what people are skewering Biden over?
I think just the optics of it is where I have a problem. Trans people are already at an enormous disadvantage in todayâs political environment. They need allies not executive orders that effectively do nothing besides an attempt to virtue signal to anti-trans voters.
