Let's fight about artists with one clear *best* song

I raise. Bridge over Troubled Water.

Bob Dylan-Like a Rolling Stone

You must have read this heresy on a subway wall or a tenement hall

haha, it’s one of my favorites, but Red Hill Mining Town is arguably a better song. The whole album (Joshua Tree) is pretty much top 10 ever for me

The pop acts of my youth are all easy.

I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys

Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera

Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears

Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC

Regarding the last of these:

Lol.

It’s hard to pick from one of the most incredible catalogues in music. But WTSHNN is the right answer

I went to the 30th anniversary Joshua Tree tour at the Rose Bowl. It was iconic. literally the best concert I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of great stuff.

I think we could merge this with the hot takes thread.

I would definitely say REM Losing my Religion because the rest of their songs aren’t very good.

Radiohead has a ton of great songs.

And 100% Shine on You Crazy a Diamond for Pink Floyd

Don’t think there’s a clear (thread title) best in their catalogue. You could make the case for New Year’s Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, One Love, etc. They have a lot of stone cold classics.

I saw them at Giants Stadium in support of, what I think was, Pop. I remember having a good time but stadium shows were wearing thin by that point.

I saw the same tour. and while i loved the music, I was kinda over the crzy props and fireworks. The Joshua Tree 30th tour was just them playing the music with images playing on a screen behind them. seriously top notch, no gimmicks.

Joe Dolce: Shaddap ya face.

Which to be honest kept another song off No1 in the UK that is also a contender.

Ultravox: Vienna.

Midge Ure was so devastated he could never write again.

Simon and Garfunkel is like a 4-way tie with Bridge, Boxer, Robinson, Silence (and seems there is one more that I’m forgetting right now); no clear number 1

Phil Collins solo is also a tie between In the Air Tonight and Land of Confusion.

I’m a Georgia boy who grew up during REM’s heyday and just never really got into them; dunno, just not great imo.

I was gonna suggest REM’s End of the World.
