Let's fight about artists with one clear *best* song

Hogwash.

It charted #3 when it was released. She’s had 18 #1 singles. It’s not even on the board for the Family Feud Mariah category.

Who thinks of a Christmas song first when it comes to her catalog?

Idk what to tell you man. Like I said, it’s one of the biggest songs of all time (in terms of popularity, longevity, and profit for the writer/singer), and it’s a great song to boot. Not sure why it being Christmas themed matters.

YES!!!

Rexx bringing pure deep cut gold to the thread.

Live! Recently!

Violent Femmes were so good back in the day. I saw them a bunch of times in the late 80s and early 90s. Super fun live band.

County Death Song is their best for sure.

In honor of Ginger Baker - RIP

Cream

Iconic = Sunshine of Your Love
Best = White Room
My favorite = Badge

Floyd is my all time favorite by a wide margin. It’s virtually impossible to name an all time #1 from them that will get wide consensus from hardcore fans, but if you polled I suspect Comforably Numb would eek out the win especially among casuals. I’d say Time is their all time greatest song but that’s also my own personal all time favorite so ymmv.

I think Comfortably Numb and Money would be close for iconic. I agree with Time as probably their greatest, but my favorite is Have a Cigar.

If we’re talking albums, Dark Side of the Moon is clearly their best based on the fact that it spent like a generation on Billboard’s Top 100. I still have an old VHS buried somewhere with it synced to The Wizard of Oz.

Good list till you get to Lee. Only answer is Brokeback Mountain.

“Zombie” - The Cranberries
“Fast Car” - Tracy Chapman
“Kiss From A Rose” - Seal
“Doo Wop (That Thing)” - Lauryn Hill
“Motownphilly” - Boyz II Men
“Electric Relaxation” - A Tribe Called Quest
“DNA” - Kendrick Lamar
“Don’t Sweat The Technique” - Eric B. and Rakim
“Mama Said Knock You Out” - LL Cool J
“Shimmy Shimmy Ya” - Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Possible controversial choice, especially given how much I love them

“Protect Ya Neck” - Wu-Tang Clan

I agree DS is their best, but it’s personally my 3rd favorite after Animals and Wish You Were Here.

He didn’t direct Empire.

Irvin Kershner did.

Correct editing…

I started to list directors but gave up after three when I got to Kubrik.

Didn’t know whether Strangelove would rival 2001.

Does any director have a better twosome (or threesome if you want to include the sequel) than Coppola with Godfather and Apocolypse Now?

Spielberg with Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan maybe is closest.

Welles should also be listed with Citizen Kane.

Jethro Tull

Iconic: Aqualung
Best: Cross Eyed Mary but Aqualung might get the consensus
Personal favorite: Skating Away (on the Thin Ice of a New Day)
Honorable mentions: My God and Mother Goose

Kubrick and Spielberg are tough because they both made several great films and more good ones. You could make an argument for Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, Spartacus etc. I love 2001 though, it’s just so visually appealing and it holds up even today.

Lucas has never directed a good movie. There I said it.
