Hated Bottle Rocket almost as much as Magnolia. Couldn’t finish it.
I almost went with that one, but I give it to Time After Time
I enjoyed Django
Jackie Brown was meh
Inglorious ok but still annoyed me
Right? They’re another band that couldn’t write a good album, but when they wrote a great song, it was perfect. I’m not including their stuff from before Steve Perry, which I almost consider a different band.
I think the best song they ever wrote is the one that finally won them a Grammy: When You Love a Woman
Jackie Brown used to be my least favorite, but it rises closer to the top every year. Are you below forty? Maybe it’s an aging thing?
Steve Smith, their drummer, went on to do some weird Jazz stuff. He’s a respected player.
He also was in some ‘Supergroup’ with Victor Wooten and Scott Henderson
would not fight over that selection
Dire Straits:
Sultans of Swing (iconic) (possible tie with Money For Nothing but that song sucks)
Down to the Waterline (best)
Big Country:
In a Big Country (iconic)
Fields of Fire (best)
People may think of Big Country as a 1-hit wonder (Americans at least, not sure about UK/Euros) but definitely not. Half a dozen great albums from early 80s through late 90s. Lead singer & main songwriter Stuart Adamson killed himself in 2001. RIP
Brothers In Arms tho
I got about half way thru and now I’m grunching. Apologies for any repeats (I’m avoiding listing any I already saw at least).
Mariah Carey: Always Be My Baby
Whitney Houston: I Will Always Love You
Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart
Celine Dion: My Heart Will Go On
Mandy Moore: I Wanna To Be With You
Rhianna: Umbrella
Madonna: Vogue
Jessica Simpson: I Wanna Love You Forever
Faith Hill: Breathe
Beyonce: Crazy In Love
Lady Gaga: Poker Face
Adele: Someone Like You
Bottle Rocket and Magnolia were both amazing.
Bottle Rocket’s pacing make it a great movie to chill and get high to. It’s so random and meandering.
I couldn’t imagine trying to watch it in a theater tho.
Yeah maybe not being a stoner hurts the experience
big country mention yeah! I loved that song.
will have to investigate their catalog per TheDuker’s recommendation!
lol suzz bringin’ the fun. nice thread, broham
All I Want for Christmas Is You is the clear winner imo. It’s actually one of the most popular songs in the history of recorded music (12th best selling single ever and the video has over half a billion views on Youtube).
The Smiths
There is A light that never goes out
Joy Division
Love Will Tear Us Apart
New Order
Best - Blue Monday
The Cure-A Forest
Echo & The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon
The Clash - London Calling
Kate Bush - Running up that Hill
Talking Heads - Burning down the house - also great version by Tom Jone, The Cardigans
Violent Femmes - country death song
Mumford & Sons, Baaba Maal - There Will Be Time
Agree with heaps of skydivers
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people may find the following video distressing as it does contain images of a deceased person.
