how is this different than ohio, a state that is well known to have completely eradicated casual antisemitism decades ago

(where did you move to?)

Found out today that my wife is pregnant with our first. We aren’t telling anyone IRL yet so I’m telling you guys :joy:

Seems like the perfect time to be procreating!

Least surprising thing ever.

Half the forum is trying to GTFO of USA#1 because of this kind of stuff (among other things). Riverman decides to just jump in the deep end head first.

I realize that Ohio is pretty bad, but if anywhere in SC is a step up, WAAF.

I truly think suburban Ohio is more racist than suburban Charleston, with the rural areas being equally racist (extremely). In the South white people are at least used to interacting with black people, including poor black people. In the Ohio suburbs the white people are legit terrified at the sight of black person not in white collar work attire.

To be clear, both places are very racist.

There’s also a very clear divide between where the haves and have nots live in Charleston. North Charleston is where the poor, seemingly unsafe areas are. Of course, North Charleston is mostly black and Hispanic. If you go to the southern part of the city, the houses are bigger and the neighborhoods as a whole are much cleaner and as one would expect it’s majority white.

I don’t remember who said this to me before or in what context but it was something like - that in the north a black man can be your boss but can’t be your neighbor, in the south he could be your neighbor but not your boss.

As someone that’s lived in the north my entire life, I can say that part is definitely true among lots of people up here.

I’m confused, what’s the issue?

Putting this on the bucket list.

Isn’t the saying “In the South they don’t mind Black people close as long as they’re not big [i. e. uppity], while Northerners don’t mind Black people being big as long as they’re not close.”

edit: ponied.

I’m going to put making a bucket list on my bucket list

So much for our trip to the mountains. Our RV generator croaked and the air quality in Mammoth took a nosedive due to a fire.

Argh
