LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

I haven’t, but I’ll put it on my list. I need some more bad art in my life

It’s not hard to look up most patriotic and xenophobic.

Micro is way wrong on patriotic, depending on how it’s measured, America is at or near the top. As for xenophobia America is nowhere near the top.

For the second paragraph, in what way do you mean?

Meh… semantics.

Xenophobia, racism, patriotism, nationalism

They’re not all the same thing, but they kinda are at the heart of it.

What would a MAGA neighbour say?

Also, the Canadians I’ve known in the US (and there are a lot of you here) advertise it as openly and proudly as just about anyone aside from Texans and people who went to Harvard. Seems patriotic to me.

That’s anecdote, not average.

My mom hasn’t lived in Canada since she was 6 years old, but she still flies the Canadian flag at their house.

I think right now, in particular, she does it as an act of defiance

(In your own condescending words) You do understand that some good artists aren’t recognised at the time and that some pretty average ones win awards, right?

Wait a second…do you think that all art is subjective? There is no such thing as good and bad art?

Now? Ok? But what about the previous 45 years?

Yes, welcome to the everything is subjective brigade of stupidity.

My 4 year old’s crayon scribblings are better than any Picasso.

If you ask people “is your country the greatest in the world”, then yes, America stands out, but how is someone in a small country going to answer that? That doesn’t mean they aren’t patriotic.

To be honest, I’ve always thought you were kind of crazy for not doing this. Not just you. All the Canadians that have the chance.

If you forced me to guess why Canadians aren’t fleeing as quickly as I would have thought it was predominantly related to two things:

  1. Inertia. If you’ve already got family and friends and you’re accustomed to where you live, it’s just hard to leave.

  2. Money. There are a lot of high income earners on here, and for many of the types of jobs those people do, the jobs pay (net) a lot better in USA#1 than Canada.

Even if I had many guesses, I wouldn’t have come up with “Canada isn’t multicultural enough”, so I’m gonna stay here.

What are the people in a fictional country that, critically to the mythology behind it, was never colonized by the Europeans, that never traded with the Europeans or the Americans, that shunned all contact with Europeans and Americans, and that generally view the West as a bunch of primitives, supposed to wear?

Sure it is. So why am I being attacked by Jal for liking something that he does not?

You’re not (aside from ripostes to your own attacks on me) and again either you’ve completely misunderstood just about everything or you’re strawmanning again.

Man some of these guys know how to do Shapiros voice perfectly
