Not sure how much you skimmed but I was the first to post the op-eds and I’m quite clearly on @Jalfrezi’s side.
I swear I never would’ve brought it up if I knew it would lead to all this but I want to stress that it’s been pretty gross, the way he’s been treated. The misunderstanding and conflation of various points has been absurd.
Jalfrezi has called people racist, infantile, said others have had “shit taste.” What is the worst thing that has been said of him? That he should take a break from posting about a subject until he knows more about it? He’s levied so, so many personal attacks while facing none.
They traded vibranium. Also, the vibranium secret country thing goes back a long time and it’d be the main cultural influence. They’d wear star-trek-style onesies made of some futuristic breathable fabric.
Good post, I’d agree with much of the last paragraph. I’d add that I think the current political climate has probably enabled “American exceptionalism” among a certain crowd, but it is not a thing with the younger generation at large.
Canadian patriotism is weird in that its stuff like “thank God we have healthcare and not Trump” but really is different during say, Obama vs now.
They traded very, very little vibranium because they knew it was more valuable than just about anything they could get in return. Thus, the whole museum heist just to get a hammer with a little bit at the start of the movie.
That makes sense, but the one thing that I guess I’m never going to understand is that if you moved to Richmond, for example, you would be missing the multiculturalism.
But your feels are your feels, and there is nothing wrong with that. To convince you to feel otherwise is futile.
As far as where you are actually moving is concerned, I have little doubt that you will miss it. But based on your original comment that didn’t sound like the comparison you were making.
You seem to be suggesting that the flavor of multiculturalism you seek just can’t be found anywhere in Canada. That is what I found hard to believe.
I should really complain to the mods, also about @skydiver8 's abuse, but I would never expect to get a fair hearing. It’s the same all the time here - a sad little gang of patriotic would be bullies who don’t like people (especially foreigners) calling out their shithole country and values for what it is.
Here Is my thing, and I realize it’s not how it’s normally defined. For me patriotism is like faith. It’s belief something is true in spite of evidence to the contrary.
I don’t think it’s patriotic for Americans to think they have the biggest economy or the most Nobel laureates.
It’s patriotic when they claim to be the freest, the most diverse, or the best (whatever that means).
You were so obviously over the line several times. Not one person targeted you because you were not American. They targeted you because you were making a small point but acting like it was monumental and you wouldn’t let it go.
A few people on the site do play the xenophobia card from time to time but nobody who was involved in your discussion.
The US is one of the most diverse countries in the world by most measures. Canada is diverse too, but it’s not ridiculous to say the US is #1 at diversity.
Hardly anyone gets moderated here ever. That’s good imo. Regardless of how you feel about moderation here, no one is getting temp banned or anything over this discussion no matter who is on what side.
This is the nature of many vs one arguments - the single person has many more posts to reply to so it appears as if they’re “not letting go” or being argumentative lol.
I seem to remember some chap called clovis walking off in a huff quite recently in not dissimilar circumstances after he wouldn’t “let it go”.
