Are fireworks on the July 4th at 11:30 PM really that atypical?
Lots of places in the northern part of the country don’t get dark enough to get started until well past 9.

Last 2.5 hours there literally isn’t a second of silence here in Chicago. Went for a drive on 90/94 and it looks like there’s a heavy fog everywhere, on the south side fireworks were going off on both sides of the highway in every single direction. I’ve never seen it anything like this

Count in my city was four structure fires, six dumpster/trash fires, three shootings, a stabbing, one exploded hand and a million other domestics/drunks/od’s etc. USA #1
I was incredibly cranky and on edge from the sound of near constant explosions. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt less patriotic. Fuck this place

I had the privilege of seeing the production in SF a few years back, whenever it was that it came to town. MrsWookie was not going to miss it, and so neither was I. Sounds like I figured I’d enjoy it more than you thought you would, but I’m still not much of a Broadway guy. It crushes.
