It’s been happening for years here, actually the pandemic has slowed them down a bit, maybe the’ve all left here for a better life in the US…

I like organised firework displays and they have to be after dark for goodness sake - lol at doing them in daylight. Is a lolCanada appropriate? - absurd.
In Things Most Perfectly Florida, it is completely illegal to discharge fireworks within the city limits of my town, as it is for most every city and town around me. However, it is totally and completely legal to sell these illegal-to-discharge fireworks within city limits.
It gets dark in Canada at like 1 in the morning on July 1 so it kind of makes a bit of sense.

Fireworks are a lot of fun, well, the big ones that are actually dangerous are. You haven’t lived unless you have almost lost a body part due to fireworks catastrophe, imo.
What aspect of them is fun? Just stick your arm in a threshing machine if you want unnecessary danger, you don’t have to fuck with my evening to do it.
I remember when I was a kid, a neighbor was shooting off small fireworks and one of the “spinners” went completely horizontal and chased me down the street. Good times.

Zardoz is pretty great. I could see how it doesn’t quite live up to it’s potential. Like if peak Terry Gilliam did it or something. But, it’s still pretty great.
I’ve never been more than barely and briefly entertained by fireworks and that includes when I was a little kid. It may be weird that I’d still go to all the fireworks stuff I’ve been to, including taking my kids when they were little, but I think that just says more about how few things there are that are like community festivals.
When I was a kid I saw a world record for the number of fireworks in a period of time—a minute, I think. I was really excited by the idea and had pestered my parents to take me for weeks. It was rubbish.
I like big-budget fireworks shows, but I hate the crowds and hassle that are usually involved with going to see them. Most of the time, it’s not worth it to me for the few minutes of entertainment.
I made the mistake once of going to the 4th of July show in D.C. Holy shit was that a mess.

Gonna be fun when people start setting off fireworks near cops in the vicinity of protesters.
On the 5th of November I usually sit on the highest hill here in the city for an hour and watch all the displays across the city, its a magnificent sight.
And keeps you well away from the snotty nosed kids

I’ve always kind of hated how this works. It would be like showing the onion tv show right after 60 minutes when the onion was trying to look as close to 60 minutes as possible.
The boundary was clearer a few years ago. In the age of a standing ovation and 4 more years chant for the president successfully drinking a glass of water it is very easy to confuse satire and reality.
