Then again on the fireworks. They did start during the protests and I know we’re never had anything close to this yeah - in terms of this often and this early. For sure the market is being flooded with illegal fireworks.

‘Amusing’ scandal in France at the minute. The long time Mayor of a Parisian suburb, Patrick Balkany, was convicted, along with his wife, of fraud and money laundering. He got 4 years and his appeal failed, however he was let out in February because he was in ‘poor health’. Last night was Fete de la Musique when lots of cafés, bars etc. have free concerts all night. This year it was obviously quite subdued on account of the COVID, but not for Balkany who is today all over twitter.

So I sent the letter. He said they do support BLM and do donations behind the scenes. I said that’s awesome but I think an official position would go a long way. I also shared that I have personally dealt with racists at the parties before.
He said he appreciated it a lot and it meant a lot to him I was comfortable sharing it with him. He will present my letter at their next meeting. The guy I was talking to is a super good guy and is pushing for it too I think, its others pushing back so I figured more community pressure would help the cause.
I dont get it though it fucking Citibank can have an official black lives matter stance why the fuck cant a super progressive diverse community

ETA: for those that aren’t familiar with it, The Breakers is a super luxury resort hotel located on Palm Beach Island.
I haven’t had any around me, but one of my coworkers mentioned that fireworks had been going off all night around her apartment for weeks.
This is a uniquely weird American thing. I’ve literally never seen fireworks for sale here in Canada.

Last 2 nights heard fireworks till about 2am. There are a few conspiracy theories on twitter about cops supplying them to people and stuff but I really don’t think that’s the case here in Chicago. This happens every year and I’ll probably chalk up a slight increase due to covid and lockdowns. A friend of mine drove to his cabin in Wisconsin over the weekend and he said lines at a few firework shops by the border were out the door (Illinois laws are strict when it comes to fireworks so everyone drives to Indiana or wisconsin to buy them)
