Joe Rogan

The 1st time I remember Rogan being out of his depth with a real charlatan was Peter Schiff and his laissez-faire economic bullshit. The health nuts and political crazies zeroed in not too long after.

Egyptian pyramid conspiracies are not light fun. It’s racist anti-science nonsense that leads directly to things like anti-vaxers and climate change denial.

The last episode I watched was Bill Burr, if you haven’t seen it I recommend a watch while baked as F. You won’t be disappointed, believe me.

It’s light fun. If it were to transform so many folks into vile pieces of shit, then fun is the only thing we should strive to have because society is completely fucked. Get some fresh air.

They are all predicated on two ideas

  1. Black and brown people are too stupid to have invented anything

And

  1. science is bullshit and not any better at getting at how the world works than common sense.

These are not fun light ideas.

What if you frame them as “Just Asking Questions”? Then is it ok? I think that makes it OK.

A lot of the Chariot of the Gods alien pyramids stuff is based on racist ideas about what ancient peoples were capable of. Clovis is right that it can get problematic very quickly.

Libs lose because when someone says wow wouldn’t it be cool if aliens built the pyramids they shout SHUT UP YOU RACIST

I’m inclined to side with tabbaker here, but I must say, the only pyramid conspiracy yootoob I watched did have some racism in it. I posted a video here where some wacko claimed that the placement of a punctuation mark on a Shakespeare cover page was code for the coordinates of the pyramids. A few times in the video he was like, “Such and such number present in the pyramids wasn’t discovered until the year 17xx”. Uh clearly it was, just not by white people in academia. One doesn’t need etale cohomology to stumble on the Euler-Mascheroni constant, and brown people discovering that number doesn’t require an explanation like “aliens did it”.

This isn’t a debate with sides. The foundation of the entire “theory” is racist and anti science. There is a long history of these ideas in history and anthropology. They have literally zero evidence to support them. It’s 100% imperialism and racism. You’ll notice there is never a single actual credentialed academic in support of the claims. It’s always “avocational” historians.

It’s also odd that aliens never played any role in white cultures or civilizations.

Isn’t the most common pro-alien argument that even modern engineers wouldn’t be able to pull it off without relying on modern machinery? That doesn’t seem like a racist argument. (But I’m coming at this topic with ~zero knowledge of the theories.)

Sure they claim that. It’s of course completely stupid since we can duplicate 100% of what was done, know exactly how they did it and can trace the evolution of the technology through the local culture. The construction of the pyramids are as much a mystery as the Washington monument.

Clovis you don’t hear about all the other conspiracies because that’s not something you’re interested in at all!

I don’t know what this means.

You think these alien conspiracy theories are dumb (and they are!) so you’re not actively seeking them out so of course you’re not going to hear about all of them.

That’s true of the last 10 years or so but I taught a course on pseudoscience and archaeology for years so have read all the foundational texts and I have seen all the shows that popularized this nonsense.

Wow that’s really cool. What’s your favorite?

Favourite is a weird word. Lol

My favorite Nazi is Rommel.
