Anybody who can switch from progressive to non-progressive views over a bit of cash and getting their feelings hurt seems like they may not have been all that all in on the messages to begin with.
Havenât listened to him in several years outside of clips and strongly dislike him now, but in the early days for the most part he constantly talked about just being nice to everyone, didnât matter if they were gay, trans, black etc and just to be a nice person. He constantly stressed being nice to other people and how that will make you feel good. It vibed with me because thats how I started feeling after doing psychadelics.
There was some insecure toxic masculinity even back then but it wasnât a lot.
At some point though he got too big, got into some kinda weird feedback loop, and I think mainly being a comedian with a popular podcast he became the #1 target for SJW and lets be honest some of them, like .1%, are complete nutters but they are super loud on twitter and a lot of them just focused on him. So that kinda put him into this loop where he felt like it was a huge thing. Then being anti-SJW became a huge part of his identity. Then the shitlib attack happened and the pendelum went full right.
Not to excusing him, just explaining what I think happened. In the early days being nice to everyone was a huge part of his schtick. Being nice, believing in stupid conspiracy theories but admitting they were stupid, and being healthy and working out.
He was always somewhat of a narcissist, gotta be to be a famous person like that, but he used to preach good things. I think the power of popularity and feedback loop made him into a super asshole which is pretty common when people get power.
Of course, and honestly I think he still believes the same progressive ideas, but he mostly just focuses on anti-SJW shit now.
I was never advocating for him to be a good person who was a true progressive, I was saying he was a useful idiot with like 20 million minions.
I get it. Were I in his shoes I would hope I wouldnt sell out my values for the cash, but I cant honestly say I wouldnt.
That kind of money changes a person. With him it changed him into an insecure ultra-masculine douchebag who cares more about his tax money now than he does about people getting hurt.
This is certainly true, but I also think that just makes it worse. When you have all the money and the power, you have more responsibility for the way you are than some poor person that needs to make sacrifices just to survive. The richest people with the loudest voices deserve the most criticism for their bad ideas.
I wonder if the HGH and testosterone heâs been taking for over a decade has fucked with him.
Thanks for taking the time to write all this out, I feel like Iâm constantly attacking you in this thread, you are very patient lol. I am sorry if I am coming across as a jerk. Joe Rogan irritates me.
The arc as you describe here is probably correct, I donât dispute that. But to me it feels like he was advocating that people be âniceâ from his own position of privilege, and then when pushed on that he had the choice to a) rush into the comforting affirmative embrace of Trumpy Alt-Righty toxic masculinity or b) actually get better. I am also a (much less) affluent white man with loads of privilege and I am proud to say that when my self affirming but hollow beliefs were challenged over the last decade I moved towards progressives or SJWs or whatever you want to call them. So fuck Joe Rogan, I am the one that deserves a hundred million dollar podcast contract ldo.
Rogan to step in and fill the Rush void?
Also wanted to add I donât think it was just the money that changed him. It was the 20 million fans loving him and all his friends and people around him turning into yes men and sucking up because being on his podcast and being his friend would make your career.
I think most people need those around them to tell them when theyâre being an asshole or out of line. When itâs just people online itâs hard to differentiate them from trolls who just shit on you always anyways
Being into people beating each other up is the opposite of being into people being nice to one another.
Yeah I heard they got no pay and was absolutely shocked. Hinchcliffe is truely a pos. He thinks if he buys them and egg McMuffin it is all good. The podcast makes money yet he ignores that for everyone but him and redban.
Your friend likely dodged a bullet not having the chance to go to Austin.
Rogan was never a progressive and the bulk of his audience are wanna be libertarians.
Rogan likes whatever he hears recently for the most part.
Except when he doesnât. Right at the very beginning of Covid he had on a super informative expert who laid it all out. I guess Joe did not cotton to that because he never had the guy back on and instead had dozens of quacks and conmen to talk about Covid instead.
Joe is someone who admits he wants to believe in every conspiracy theory. So if someone spins a decent enough tale he will give them a big forum.
If you asked Joe what Bernie represented at the time of his endorsement it would have made no sense to anyone on this site. That is how clueless he was about what Bernie really represented.
Whenever Rogan gets heat from one side or the other he wheels out both sides.
Much better job of summing up his Bernie support than i achieved.
I liked listening to him talk drugs and space and the meaning of life with Duncan Trussell or Egyptian pyramid conspiracies with that one guy. Needs to go back to that and stop talking about adult stuff.
He (and everyone else) hates his guts. I told him for years he was a sucker for doing it all for free. But I just donât get it. Thatâs how LA works bro
Haha I already called this. Part of me thinks his life experience precludes him from reaching Rush scummery levels but there is a giant void and he could fill it.
Everyone who used to listen to Joe bloody Rogan is sus imo
$100 million bones for takes like this
People who never listened to early Rogan (say 1st 400) episodes missed a lot of good fun and interesting people.
