Joe Rogan

Never thought Hinchcliffe was all that funny. Thought it was funnier watching Jake “The Snake” Roberts rag on him repeatedly when on JRE than any joke Tony told.

lol my friend is in the Kill Tony band. I’ve never made it through an episode of that podcast. Tony is insufferable.

ETA the old band.

Nice note because my understanding is the original band was not invited to go to Austin or at least hinchcliffe didn’t try to facilitate it.

I’m talking to him now and yea… he didn’t even tell the comedy store or anyone involved with the show he was moving until the last day. My friend put in god knows how many hours for no pay to be treated like that. Karma is a bitch

Shit like this is why “but Joe Rogan isn’t personally transphobic” rings so hollow. I agree that from what I’ve heard from him he doesn’t seem to personally hate or have any big problem with trans people but he spews the talking points of bigots absolutely non-stop.

Rogan annoys me. I think he means well but can’t wrap his head around how his viewpoints are outdated. He’s thisclose to figuring it out, but can’t quite get over the bump. And he should know better. Bill Burr is in the same boat.

No joke, I think if guys like Rogan and Burr were exposed to a site like this one, they would get it. Instead, they are trapped in this area of mediocrity trying to understand why they things aren’t the way they want them to be.

There’s no way this is true. Rogan has infinite resources and can hear any viewpoint he wants, at length, from any person in the world. His ignorance is a choice.

It is an odd coincidence.

Nah he went down this road 10x more after the shitlibs dragged his name through the mud brutally after he endorsed Bernie. Seriously his name was in the news daily about being a bigot and horrible human being from political talking head centrists. I knew at the time they had fucked up massively. Rogan probably pushes his 10+ million listeners towards conservative viewpoints now.

Sure prior he had problematic guests on but he almost entirely pushed progressive ideas. Now he’s 100% all in on the anti SJW culture war.

Shitlibs shot themselves in the foot massively over the Rogan shit and being terrified of Bernie.

Bill’s different in that he’s really joking about that stuff. He isn’t making statements the way Rogan does. Even when Bill talks about it on his podcast it’s in a tongue-in-cheek fashion.

I also sense that they don’t really like each other much. His last appearance on JRE was a bit tense compared to others because he was actually willing to push back on some of the bullshit Rogan was spouting.

I dont think this is really true.

Rogan’s fundamental approach is to assume that an “against the grain” viewpoint has merit. This is framed as being open minded, but it actually belies a horrendous arrogance that assumes “normal” people that hold conventional views are stupid and “independent” thinkers are smart. To the extent that Rogan ever espoused any progressive view, it would only be because he saw that view as “independent”. Rogan doesn’t like Sanders because he’s progressive. Rogan likes Sanders because he hates Hillary and Biden. When someone supports Bernie and Trump, they’re not progressive. They’re just idiots.

Of course, Rogan reveals his true self when it comes to trans rights or anything else that challenges his Neanderthal views on masculinity. Then the unconventional view is suddenly not so interesting! The only time he speaks with any actually conviction is when he wants to assert his own personal alpha male superiority over other men. The guy is an ignorant, hateful clown.

Some of that is certainly true but as someone who listened to his podcast he certainly had a ton of legit progressive views. Someone should find the video of him dunking on fucking Shapiro on black communities and why they’re a cycle of poverty. He wasn’t just being a contrarian, he had a lot of legit progressive views.

Prior to the attack from the shitlibs he used to go on and on mocking the mens rights groups, saying come the fuck on dude men have all the rights already aside from maybe divorce issues. Now he is talking about white men not being allowed to go outside.

The shitlibs picked him up from the center left and punted him all the way over to authright territory,

I’m not willing to pretend he had no agency on this stuff. He was spouting transphobic stuff years and years ago. The toxic masculinity stuff is his and he owns it. Nobody is forcing him to be a Trump supporting asshole. That’s a choice.

Sorry, I think we have to agree to disagree on this. I acknowledge that you certainly have insights that I don’t have because I have not been (and will not be) a consumer of lots of his content. What I’ve seen from him is terrible garbage and the defenses of him I’ve heard often sound like cult of personality stuff to me. I’m out.

I hate this comic. The implication is we’re not supposed to call out terrible beliefs, or we’re supposed to meet people with terrible beliefs “where they are”. This is where NYT Deplorable Safaris come from.

What is the point of calling them out if not to change their mind? If so, we know all the research says yelling at them and calling them terrible does the exact opposite.

That’s true, but I also think that there is an inference in that comic that terrible ideas are spread because people criticize them, but actually the people with toxic ideas are responsible for the spreading of terrible ideas. Yes, it’s important to separate “that’s a bad idea” from “you’re a bad person”. But that comic is as misleading as it is insightful.

Can someone who listens to Rogan let me know if he has actually invited any SJW types on to his show to talk about their views and try to explain them? I am assuming that he doesn’t do this but I don’t know for sure. One of the things about Rogan that bugs me is that he holds these ignorant view while being paid millions of dollars to talk for hours daily to literally anyone he feels like talking to. If he wanted to engage trans rights activists, for example, he could. But I don’t think he does. I may be wrong.

I don’t recall him having a trans rights activist on his show

It pays for them. They make 100 million feeding their audience what they want. Why on earth would they learn different?
