Joe Rogan

Isn’t that the guy that was loyal to Germany and not Hitler? He refused to kill POW’s and stuff like that?

Yeah I’m not sure if anyone knows how much of that is myth and how much is reality. He was already a national figure before the Nazis came to power, so its believable. He also was part of the group that ultimately tried to assassinate Hitler and end the war, if I recall correctly.

Where did the alien pyramid thing come from? Wasn’t it all about civilizations before recorded history?
Reading way too much into it. People got high and let their imaginations run wild.

It largely came from the book Chariots of the Gods in 1968. Here’s one ludicrous example where the author decided Maya king Pakal of Palenque looked like he was working the controls like an astronaut in a Mercury capsule:

Yes interstellar aliens traveled thousands of light years in a tiny cramped capsule. Brilliant.

And yes the whole idea that brown people can’t build giant pyramids has very racist origins as Clovis pointed out. In the 1800s the leading scholars of the day speculated the Maya ruins were built by the Phoenicians, the Lost Tribes of Israel, even the Atlantians. They couldn’t fathom that any of the great ruined cities were built by ancestors of the lowly Maya living nearby, who occupied the bottom rung of colonial society.

Pseudo-science sucks.

About halfway through this book, which covers the history of anthropology focused on Franz Boas and his students, including Margaret Mead, who were the good guys. https://www.amazon.com/Gods-Upper-Air-Anthropologists-Reinvented/dp/0385542194

Good book but the familiar story about race science is crazy. What was regarded as “science”, especially what was bankrolled by business people and influential to politicians was just crazy. Much of it was little more than made up bunk. You see a lot of the same tone and style of argument in people like Charles Murray and any number of conservative economists, who apply their galaxy brain ideas to explain how the existing order was fated to be by immutable race laws.

I think the best general book on the subject remains Gould’s The Mismeasure of Man, but there are plenty of other good ones as well.

After religion, and maybe before nationalism, it’s like the lynchpin of conservatism over the last 200 years.

I read Rogan-regular Graham Hancock’s Fingerprints Of The Gods when I was 11 and it blew my mind until he started citing the existence of circles in Egypt before they knew about Pi as evidence of a lost and forgotten advanced civilization.

There are a whole bunch of supposedly respectable intellectual frameworks that only ever existed to launder stuff that isn’t even a little bit morally defensible so that normies can participate in that stuff and sleep at night.

It’s not just race science either, a huge amount of economics is the same thing.

The argument is often framed in terms of silly primitive people being too dumb and silly to do things like carve stones and move big rocks around, or at least that’s how Chariot of the Gods used to frame things. Or like, look at these doofy indigenous South Americans, their ancestors could have never built amazing Mayan cities. I imagine modern ancient alien stuff is presented in a less problematic way.

Yeah, you flat-out don’t know what you’re talking about here. Leave this one for the grownups.

My favorite part about this, which was ripped on another podcast which included the person Rogan mocked for wearing a mask at Whitney Cummings during peak Covid, is he is literally a white guy who gets paid hundreds of millions to spew garbage to millions of people every day. Plus 90% of his guests are white males.

He has no self awareness. My solace is Rogan wants to be known as a great comedian yet almost nobody considers him even ah average stand up comic. Dude is not funny.

I used to enjoy his show when it was silly nonsense that wasn’t hurting anyone. Rogan fired his rails off producer who took nothing seriously and since then the show devolved into garbage,

I agree with the Duncan trussell alien stuff as being a good listen. It was pure sugar without the side effects.

But that show didn’t get him to the 100 million LISTENERS a month level. Not until he started taking self important pseudo scientists seriously did his show transcend. In the hindsight of four years of Trump it makes perfect sense now.

Back to the point, there are more dumb white male opinions for the ingestion now than ever before.

How can we cull the herd?

Yeah if nobody can talk about things racists talk about we have painted ourselves into a non existent corner, as racists talk about literally everything.

I don’t find Clovis stance on Egyptian aliens even slightly compelling.

I think the arguments are silly about aliens and the pyramids but they are not fundamentally racist. And I am always willing to call out a racist.
