e.g. a couple of weeks ago there were three millenials on jeopardy and none of them knew about the “ding ding” hose at a gas station since none of them have probably ever seen full-service gas.
that seems like a way better example of time moving on than “feather in your cap” tbh. there are tons of even more anachronistic idioms with weird words nobody uses anymore outside of those particular idioms yet people still know them.

The other reason why this is such a bad example is that her first guess was hat!
Obviously she didn’t deduce hat based on the letters since H and T were already in play, so it seems like she had some familiarity with the phrase but she just couldn’t get from hat to cap.
