It’s a ten second time limit. As long as you say those four words in order, you should be good.
iirc, during the extensive rules briefing before taping they explain that the answer needs to be said in one continuous statement. If you pause, you need to start over. I don’t remember if there was an objective time limit to the pause. Pretty sure it was just “if you pause, start over. As long as you start before the buzzer you are good.”

I can see not allowing someone to just guess at the 4th word after saying the first 3 words wo starting over, but she did start over.
I don’t mean that. He’s a right-wing asshole and not very good at an extremely easy job (Trebek was an asshole too but way better at the job). The way Pat laughs at and needles people who lose on the show is pretty annoying. Almost seems like he takes pleasure in people losing in a heartbreaking way.

Wow. That’s a terrible rule on WOF. To me if all of the words are said consecutively in order within 10 seconds, that’s good enough.
To me, such a rule exists because it sounds more appealing to an audience to hear the answer continuously to win the prize rather than going one word at a time across the span of 10 seconds.
Plus, winning a car is total bullshit. People get an Audi but don’t realize that they have to pay taxes on game show winnings and probably end up selling the car to pay the taxes they owe on it.
I think they’re trying to avoid a situation where you have the first few words complete with the letters you’ve selected, say “Mary had a little …”, and then just start saying as many individual words as possible to try to complete the phrase. CAT DOG COW BIRD FISH LAMB HORSE PENIS - I SAID LAMB IN THERE I WIN!
Yeah but why is that a bad thing? To me that’s a perfectly legitimate strategy. Just sounds a bit awkward.
