Jeopardy! Thread (No spoilers until after the show EST)

Man James looks super tall next to the other two contestants. A fun behind the scenes tidbit from Wheel is that each of the three contestant stands can raise and lower independently. They set them so that all three contestants heads are at relatively the same level. You can notice it in pre-covid episodes when Sajak walks over to the blue spot and has to step up or down.

There was a tie for 37.6K yesterday and no one posted about it!?

Just saw it. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a tiebreaker before.

I know I’ve seen at least one other tiebreaker before.

But I do want to comment about how fucking dumb it was for the person in 3rd to bet it all. If you are confident in the category, sure bet everything but one dollar. But no fucking reason to bet it all when the two people ahead of you have to bet it all.

brian the brain. great champion.

You mean tonight? Was this Friday’s episode or does my area get the episodes delayed by a day?

Yea it was tonight’s. I had 2 episodes on the DVR. Got mixed up.

Second tiebreaker I think I’ve seen. Losing out on 37.6K because of buzzer timing would make me throw up.

Didn’t they used to just let both be champions and go on to the next show?

Thought so too.

No idea how the loser of a tiebreak doesn’t cut the winner. Or the people who came up with the idea of a tiebreaker in Jeopardy.

They changed it when Arthur Chu started betting for the tie as a strategy. More people starting doing it and there were a lot more ties right afterward, so they wound up needing fewer contestants than normal on taping days and people complained about travelling all that way and not actually getting on.

I think this was the third tiebreaker in regular play that I’ve seen. Third place betting everything was just flushing EV down the toilet, you just need to bet enough so that you’ll be ahead of the tied players if they both bet nothing.

Just read Chu’s wiki. Seems like a pretty cool guy. As a fan of heels, I would have totally embraced the “Jeopardy Villain” moniker too

thanks, that makes sense.

I always thought they should have changed the tie rule so that both contestants came back but had to split the total $$, that would probably have been enough of a deterrent to using it as strategy, without having to throw in that massive variance of the tiebreaker.

I’ll co-sign this. Hate the tie rule with the buzzer race. I commented on the third place bet back on 22.

would be better if they did rock paper scissors

No, she had $10k. Ken mentioned they all had five figures going into FJ.

She could have bet the difference plus $2 in case one of them got cute and tried $1. But I’m ok if she just bets $0 here. Odds of her getting a solo get here are way worse than a triple stumper where the two leaders go all-in.

Literally all-in from third is the only horribad wager.

Play for the stumper. Bet $0.

Rewatching Orange is the New Black when suddenly :sob:

It’s Elliott Kalan! That guy from my favorite I, Claudius podcast!
