Right. That’s the problem. You’ve got at least a not insignificant number of casual posters on this site, who, like me, probably haven’t even noticed the thread yet (I just noticed it), but who don’t want to be associated with a forum that has stuff like that in it.
Is it the “implicit” and “satirical” part? What if the revolutionary overthrow of the political and economic order is taken more seriously?
I mean, we had a no threats of violence, implicit or otherwise, rule on the old 2+2 forum. People used to bitch at me when I deleted their borderline posts, but I was protecting them as much as I was protecting the site.
This community has always had some basic standards in place, calling for the death of politicians has always been bannable.
And I think it’s worked. Those of you who want to make this a free-for-all are proposing a radical change, and it’s clear that some of the long-term, high venue posters aren’t comfortable with it.
That’s funny, because it really seems like the edgelords are the ones being childish here.
And there are also a not insignificant number of long time regs who thought it was perfectly fine and don’t want to feel like they’re constantly walking on eggshells to appease a small handful of very sensitive users.
Here we all are trying to get along on the same forum. The game was guillotined. The thread was sent to the cornfield. The OP (me) has been properly rebuked by a moderator and a vocal contingent of the community. Mistakes were made. Lessons have been learned.
Now, can we put the whole thing to bed and move on?
Moving on is not our strongsuit.
My take away is there’s a disappointing amount of posters that wouldn’t participate in an actual revolution because of their cushy jobs.
Lol… he’s some kind of professional or doctor or lawyer They bathe in avian and wouldn’t be caught dead on facebook or twitter.
There was stuff as bad that went unmoderated on 2p2 and still does. I’m not saying this is a good idea, but if we applied the same principle to 2p2, a lot of you should never have been posting on there.
2p2 had a guy rage kill a prostitute, drove a woman to suicide, had some abhorrent political posts and all of us posted on there for a decade.
What about the gun and police threads. Lots of violence, lots of comments to draw unwarranted attention from outside forces, including law enforcement.
We really need to sanitize the site to protect all of the users, not just the ones who complain the loudest. Plus some of the pb&j opinions are insane and if my friends and family learned about them I would be ostracized.
I will remember to protest anything I am not comfortable being associated with and will see how that goes. I am sure it will only be met with positive head shakes, total agreement and goose and gander talk.
We are setting the line that EVERY USER here has to be comfortable with EVERY POST here regardless if they read it or the thread that contained it.
I am sure that will attract the best moderators too.
It’s ok I’m not mad you gotta do what’s best for you.
It’s weird this is where the line is seemingly drawn.
What do you guys think this site looks like in two years if Trump wins again?
Just change the draft title to “Meanies We Don’t Like.” Those that participate will know what it really means and the rest can bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything is hunky dory.
+1
FWIW, I don’t think ZZ is an edgelord and I get that he was careful to emphasize that the game was still satirical. Still, for me, I think on the outer boundaries of good taste to have a fantasy kill list.
I don’t mean to be a dick, and I think you’re a likable person and a smart guy, but your posting on this topic has been really bad and you should think about what jman is saying. The comparison is to a FB group, not FB overall.
One of my takeaways is that, regardless of the fact that this was a satirical thread, there are a number of posters here who I genuinely believe would guillotine a bunch of 1%ers if they woke up tomorrow with the power to do so with impunity.
Like a year ago I took all guillotine references as 100% metaphorical/humor, now I’m not very sure at all and I think there are a few here who legit think it would be ideal if some 1%ers were killed off.
There have been many bloodless revolutions in recent history and almost every single country that had one is now better off than they were before.
Whatever you do, don’t search youtube for “bill hicks marketing”.
I don’t support guillotining the 1%, but I support talking about it to move the Overton window so that higher taxes seem like the moderate course by comparison.
