I do not mean to be flippant, but Freedom of Expression is a bedrock principle of western civilization. The principle applies to even internet forums. Especially political forums.
Of course, a forum can decide to enact rules that restrict expression (which we have done), but it should do so only after a great deal of thought and only with compelling reasons.
I mean, you guys literally have a twitter account that is tweeting at political figures, and now the website has a satirical death list. That is second level stupid.
You’ve got a lot of professionals, attorneys, doctors, etc posting on these boards and a lot of them have left enough information to figure out who they are. Allowing threads like this is a terrible idea. The same demographic is not posting on 4chan and 8chan.
Cuse is no longer mod, rule 7 is petering out, and even if some version of it does pass, nobody is going to enforce it. With that, please stop acting like it’s weird to want to avoid publicly fantasizing about killing cops and politicians, it’s not weird, it seems pretty fucking sensible to me, at least, worth compromising on given that many people in good faith don’t like it? Also stop invoking what they say on stormfront or in breitbart comments as if their utter depravity should license this place to retort in kind. Also pretty please stop pretending that anyone was ever stopping anyone from talking about the French Revolution, historical violence, violence and the human condition, or whatever. Maybe keep the A Time to Kill outbursts to yourself, like I do?
I guess I’m inclined to think the thread should be deleted or whatever just to make people happy, but I sure as hope you people who are resigning out of protest never use Facebook or Twitter or shop at most stores or lots of other stuff you “support” with your participation.
As I said, I’m not against deleting, but if the only other site you can participate in is Disney, maybe we’re not going to make the cut. I suggest you try WebKinz.
Fundamentally, is this site PG, PG-13, R, or X rated. I’ve been part of and enjoyed all 4 types. Each has benefits and liabilities. I’ll stick around for awhile whatever is decided. I hope others do too.
You guys are missing the point. It’s not about profanity or rating. It’s about implicit or even satirical threats of violence. I don’t care if you have an OOT style board where you talk about your sex lives.
Which means PG to me. Generally SFW and open to public scrutiny. Which makes sense for people with a public facing reputation or a certain sensibility.
