I’m still trying to figure out the reason for the double bronze medals awarded in judo.
Simple bracket with no third place match. They do that in boxing and taekwondo as well.

What is the reason for this? Is it concern that once someone loses a fight, they would not be in a condition to fight again? Always thought it was odd that most sports have bronze medal match, other than a few.
I feel bad for laughing but one of the more entertaining “home viewing party” moments was just now when they showed the family of the American who botched the vault and they all gasp and go “oh no!” in unison. A nice change of pace from the usual celebrations they show.
Woman from the Netherlands running a 1500m qualifier fell with about 350m left and still ended up winning the race.

It was a nice moment when the two runners collided in the 800m semis last night and then helped each other up, hugged it out, and jogged together to the finish line.
And it was impressive that in the same race, the winning Kenyan was just hanging back and then took a wide route around the two racers in front of him as easily as if they were an old couple in his way.
