so im reading on socials that the US men’s high jumper turned down a chance to share a co-gold medal with New Zealand and then the american proceeded to miss the jumps in the jump-off and lose…

I’m seeing some frame it as McEwen not agreeing and some as if they both decided on a jump off. I haven’t seen video and wasn’t paying attention when it was on tv so not sure exactly what happened.
The Tokyo moment was great, but I can also understand the feeling that this is your life’s work and you want to leave the Olympics as THE best, not one of the best.
