Hurricane Season 2025

Combining the shutdown with this transactional and rascit admin, the odds of the US helping after this have got to be near zero. This is something where we would send humaitarian aid in the past, instead we are sending a dick waving fleet to Venezuela.

Yea Jamaica is absolutely fucked. Parts of PR were out of power for a year after Maria. Hell, my neck of the woods in rural Florida between Ocala and Gainesville was flooded for 6 months after Irma. Mike Johnson will be holding a press conference next week saying the Jamaicans are Godless and oh they should have prayed harder. Nothing we can do folks. :person_shrugging:

Only hope is a couple of them have their 5th house there

I have no words for the latest projected track

Is this saying that its going to essentially sit on top of Jamaica for 3 full days?

No, it’s probably going to be about a 12-18 hour event on the island once it makes landfall. The effects previous to landfall may be 2 days starting tonight depending how slowly it moves.

The latest projected path moves it even closer to Kingston. A little over 2 million people live in Jamaica and all will be catastrophically affected by this hurricane. Haiti might get completely decimated and the DR won’t be much better. I’m wondering if this going to be the worst hurricane to hit the Caribbean in terms of damage and loss of life.

Gilbert in 1988 was Jamaica’s worst hurricane and it went east to west across the island at 20 mph. Miraculously, very few people died and were injured in that hurricane which was a high 3 at landfall. This one is expected to be a 4 and could be a 5. Kingston is projected to get 2 to 3 feet of rain. 2 to 3 feet!

Pretty stiff breeze this morning that I thought nothing of and didn’t even make the connection. Now there’s white caps on the Crystal river and palm trees starting to sway, almost getting that familiar lean. I’m 1300 miles from Kingston

It’s insane how slow this thing is moving.

It went up to 5 mph in the last update I saw. I’m guessing it will be a hurricane in the next big update.

Melissa is officially a category 1 at 75 mph. It is now moving WSW at 1 mph.

It’s not even raining in Kingston yet.

That means it’s obviously a hoax. What’s a little rain? Grow some balls.

He doesn’t care about that area, so he won’t even notice

Is it wrong to want it to go another 100 or so miles further west. (West Palm)

I want it to go another 100 miles west of Jamaica first.

A piece of very bad trivia is that bad hurricanes in Jamaica are kind of like the IT clown.

The first worst hurricane in Ja’s recorded history was Charlie in 1951.

Gilbert was worse than that in 1988.

This will be worse than Gilbert in 2025.

Each one of those storms was exactly 37 years apart.

It’s up to a category 2, 100 mph winds with 115 mph gusts. It’s moving at 3 mph to the west.

There’s several storm chasers (they usually chase tornadoes) that are in Jamaica. Like these guys have zero experience with a major hurricane let alone a Cat 5 on an island that’s going to lose a ton of infrastructure. They could be stuck there for weeks if not months.

ICyclone is there but he has 2 meteorologists on his staff that tell him if it’s safe as far as elevation and surge. He knows what he’s doing. But these other chasers are in over their heads.

interesting, link to their content?

ICyclone doesn’t do live shots. He tries to get data from the eye making landfall. We probably won’t hear anything from him until he’s safe after the storm. When Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, he was MIA for a week. Here’s his video of Dorian. If I come across live footage of the other guys I’ll link it.
