I watched the American Experience on McCarthy last night. He was the prototype for most of the Republicans these days - the big lie, utterly shameless, went after homosexuals in govt while very likely having a weird thing with Roy Cohn, who had a very weird thing with another guy who got drafted. Cohn demanding special treatment from the army for his special friend ended up being the thing that wrecked McCarthy.
