Ok that’s actually much worse than I thought. Was it always this bad? I thought it was a combination of slick production values with a subtle dose of conservative/evangelical bias, American exceptionalism, founding father worship, etc.
That stuff is just laughably slanted and ignorant. Alert the teacher and give them a chance, then burn them down if there’s any pushback. Any worthwhile content one might find is overwhelmingly outweighed by the danger of legitimizing the organization, especially with children.
Yep, like I said, thats Prager’s big goal and the reason they put out the occasional legitimate video.
Get played in schools
Get legitimized to the students
Profit.
Its deeply insidious. When their top videos are from the likes of Candace Owens, Jordan Peterson, Stevem Crowder and Dave Rubin… there just isnt any possibility of a benefit of the doubt.
IIRC, he was actually the one who figured out PragerU before I even knew he had seen a video. One of his good friends is the son of deplorables (the kid who bet him that Trump would win the election), though he himself has shown cracks in his own deplorable armor. For instance, he wants the COVID-19 vaccination, but his parents won’t let him. In the past, the kid has sent my son PragerU videos to try to prove points he was making. dlk9s jr saw through the bullshit immediately and eventually told me about them when telling stories about how his friend was being an idiot.
So when he came home yesterday, he just had this wry grin on his face when he told me about the video from class.
I’ll ponder what approach to take. The teacher is actually his homeroom teacher, too, and we have optional parent-teacher conferences in a couple weeks. Not sure if I’ll wait for that or just e-mail her before then. I had one long conversation with her once and she seemed fine and appeared to truly care about the kids. Didn’t detect any awfulness at all. But we’ll see. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt for now.
